12 sc and 13 rows = 4" [10 cm].

Instructions

Note: Work Petals and Flower Center first, then remainder of Hat is worked side to side.
See Chart below.

Petal (make 5).
Ch 15.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each of next 2 ch. 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch. 1 dc in each of next 2 ch. 1 tr in each of next 2 ch. 1 dc in each of next 2 ch. 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch. 3 sc in last ch. Place marker on center sc. Do not turn. Working into rem loops of opposite side of chain, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch. 1 dc in each of next 2 ch. 1 tr in each of next 2 ch. 1 dc in each of next 2 ch. 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch. 1 sc in each of next 3 ch. Turn. 29 sts.
2nd and 3rd rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to marked sc. 3 sc in marked sc. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn. Fasten off at end of 3rd row.

To join Petals: Bottom joining row: (RS). Holding Petal up-side down, and working across side edge of each Petal, join yarn with sl st to last sc of 3rd row. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. 1 sc in first foundation ch. 1 sc in first sc of 3rd row. *(1 sc last sc of 3rd row. 1 sc in first foundation ch. 1 sc in first sc of 3rd row) of next Petal.
Rep from * across rem 3 Petals. Fasten off. 15 sc.

Center
Ch 8. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 2. 30 hdc in ring. Join with sl st to first hdc. Do not fasten off.
Place marker on 7th hdc of rem hdc.

Join Petals to Center: Place RS of Petals and Center tog. Working through both thicknesses, join yarn with sl st to first sc of Bottom joining row. Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 15 hdc. Fasten off. Leave rem hdc of center unworked.
Sew sides of Petals tog across first 7 sc and last 7 sc.

Hat
1st row: (RS). Counting from bottom, join yarn with sl st to 13th sc of First Petal. Ch 7 (counts as tr and ch 3). *Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 3. Miss next sc. 1 sc in (marked) center sc. Ch 3. Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 3. Miss next sc.** (Yoh) twice and draw up a loop in next sc. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. (Yoh) twice and draw up a loop in corresponding 13th sc of next Petal. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – tr2tog made. Ch 3. Rep from * 3 times more, then from * to ** once. 1 tr in next sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first tr. *Ch 4. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 4. 1 sc in next sc. Ch 4. 1 sc in next dc. Ch 4.** 1 sc in next st. Rep from * 3 times more, then from * to ** once. 1 sc in 4th ch of ch 7. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2). *1 sc in next ch-4 sp. Ch 4. Rep from * to last ch-4 sp. 1 sc in last ch-4 sp. Ch 2. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *Ch 4. 1 sc in next ch-4 sp. Rep from * to last ch-5 sp. Ch 4. 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch 5. Turn. Rep 3rd and 4th rows 3 times more, then 3rd row once.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *Ch 7. 1 sc in next ch-4 sp. Rep from * to last ch-5 sp. Ch 7. 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch 5. Fasten off.

Bottom border: 1st rnd: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to marked hdc of Center. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. Ch 4. 1 sc in each of next 12 sc of Petal. Working into sides of sts, 4 sc in next tr. (1 sc next sc. 2 sc in next dc) 5 times. Miss next sc. 4 sc in next ch-7 sp. Bring opposite end over; 4 sc in next ch-7 sp. (1 sc next sc. 2 sc in next dc) 5 times. Miss next sc. 4 sc in next tr. 1 sc in each of next 12 sc of Petal. Ch 4. Join with sl st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. 3 sc in next ch-4 sp. 1 sc in each sc to next ch-4 sp. 3 sc in next ch-4 sp. Join with sl st to first sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Fasten off.

Twisted cord: Cut 4 strands of yarn 30" [76 cm] long. With all strands tog hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands will now twist themselves tog.

Beg at opposite side of Flower Center, thread cord through ch-7 loops. Tie in a bow, pulling ch-7 loops tog.
