Crochet-Along Clue 2

Thanks for the info about the flower size. Yes, I have been checking the size against the template, mine are definitely too small. I have moved up to a K hook, if that doesn't work then I will just add on more rows or change to a treble crochet instead of double, I guess. It is a very pretty block, I can't wait to get it the right size, I would like to move on to making the rest of them.
I will look at your photo in the spoilers. How tall are your dc rows?

So, my octagon is just shy of 11 inches... My gauge is perfect, is this ok?

Somebody please share with me your actual measurements for the flower and what your measurement is from row 5 - 8. I started with an I hook, tried a J hook and still only have a 9 1/2in block, that won't fit with my 4 1/2in squares from clue #1. Thanks so much.

I've finished 2 - clue #2 blocks with H hook and have 11" from flat side of octagon to opposite flat side of octagon. My center flower is 5" from petal tip to petal tip with remaining rows measuring 3" all the way around.

My gauge is right on. The motifs from clue 1 are dead on. I'm using a K hook already and don't actually own a larger hook at the moment. Yet my clue 2 motifs are coming out at only 9 1/2 inches. I'm not sure if I should just add a couple more rows or ask my husband to pick up some larger hooks and keep trying until I get it right or what.

I think the key to matching the template with Clue 2 is to let the yarn flow very loose. That's what I had to do.

OK ladies i need help. Just started Clue 2, and I have a question about round 5. Do i do the ( 1dc, ch1 ) first and then do what is in the brackets? or do i do what is in the brackets first and then do the ( 1dc, ch1) ? i justed started crocheting again, and i am not sure how to do row 5. This is the first time for me doing a flower. Any help will be appreciated.

[1 dc. Ch 2. (1 dc. Ch 1) twice] in same ch-5 sp.

You need to do the stitches in order as they are written. Do 1 double crochet, then chain 2. Next do 1 double crochet, then chain 1. Now repeat what was in the parentheses (). So, you do 1 double crochet, and chain 1. All of that should be done in the same chain 5 space.

hi, in clue #1 it came out the right size, but in this one i had to add two more rows, is that o.k.?

It's your blanket, my friend.
Do what you need to do to make it fit the template.

Of course, your blanket will look a little different from the design, but it will still be beautiful, and will keep you warm.

Oh, this gave me some trouble. I stopped at Round 5 because the flower looked way too wonky and when I went to chain 5 around the petals, it just didn't look right. I think I missed a few stiches somewhere. I am going to just take some deep breaths, keep reading your posts and work on it this weekend when I am more relaxed.

After round 4, the flower DOES look a little wonky. It will be pulled into shape as you do the rest of the motif. Just hang in there.

I had the same problem, so I crocheted clue 2 with a larger hook and looser gauge which matches the template perfectly, but now I'm afraid that clue 1 squares aren't going to match gauge with clue 2. The stitches are definitely noticeably different and I really don't want to do all 12 clue 1 squares again with a larger hook. I might try my original hook with a slightly more relaxed gauge and see what happens. Arghh, this will be my 3rd attempt!

Hang in there! This is why I'm sticking with the smaller hook (which is actually an I). The doubles match my doubles in clue 1, so I think I'll be okay. They need a crossing fingers smiley!

Just did my 1st block it measures 9.5"! argh!! Should I redo with a larger hook or add another round of dc's?
