I have been crocheting for more than 40 years. I have made more afghans, scarves, slippers, hats and garments than I can even count. My Clue 1 squares were perfectly sized. My Clue 2 squares measure 9 1/2 inches. The fact that so many seasoned crocheters are having gauge problems indicates a lack of pattern testing on Bernat's part. I can't believe such a reputable company would put out an apparently untested pattern under their banner. I am extremely disappointed with the issues this week. Love the pattern and had no problem figuring it out. But I currently have a really bad taste in my mouth concerning Bernat products because of the problems with the testing and design of this CAL. I will hang in for one more week, still using my trusty H hook. If the next clue is problematic, I will frog my progress so far, and go to a more reliable source for my patterns and yarn needs. Thanks for letting me vent, but this is ridiculous!

I am curious about everyone and their sizing problems. I haven't even started worrying about how they will fit together yet. Is it certain that these first two pieces fit together? Couldn't it be that they don't? My thinking on the issue is that I crochet the same way all the time with the same tension. Therefore if the pattern was made to fit together then my own work will fit together. I might end up with a bigger or smaller blanket but I'm going to love it either way. I was just curious. It seems like a lot of headache and worry for something that's supposed to be fun.

Of course I didn't even look at the blocking and gauge stuff maybe it says they go together?

I'm surprised at the number of people with gauge issues on this one. If the gauge is supposed to be the same as the last clue then I don't understand why so many people are having problems. I was thinking probably 2 more rounds. One that is the double crochet and chain stitches, and one that is just the double crochet.

Maybe the issue with size is because of all the double crochets. Some people make their double crochets looser or tighter than others. This could make a BIG difference in how the motif works up.

I have forced myself to let the yarn flow through each stitch, so it doesn't ever bunch up. It goes against my nature, but it makes the stitches look better. When I was younger, I was a very tight crocheter. I had to stop crocheting because it was hurting my wrist so bad. Then, about 3 years ago, I decided to try crochet again, using a different grip on the hook, and letting the yarn flow. Now, I can crochet as long as I want, and my work is not as tight.

I am saying this, so that others will keep an open mind, and try to work their stitches a little looser, to see if it helps to get gauge.

The label under member names will change according to how many posts you make in the forum.
Also, the yarn balls will become colored in.

You are just a newbie to the forum.

Darn it! my ends aren't nearly that long, what do we do if that happens. I'll do that from now on :smashy:

No worries. Several of us are NOT leaving 12 inch tails. We will be fine.

I'm with you Carla - if the pieces were designed to go together, they probably will. Everyone is pretty much assuming that the pieces will fit together (a logical assumption based on patterns that we have all seen), but nothing in the pattern actually says that is the case. I figure that if the project is well designed, the number of stitches on each side of any two motifs that we are joining are going to be approximately the same, and my stitches in all my motifs are approximately the same size so it will work out in the end.

I'm sorry you are disappointed with the pattern.
Several of us are matching our motifs to the template without a problem. I used an H hook for all my motifs in Clue 1 and Clue 2.
