On Row 5 I found it easiest to use stitch markers in the ch 2 spaces.

On Row 6 I found that I had to be careful when stitching in the ch 2 spaces--I would lose track of where I was and put the second stitch in the wrong space.

My finished piece before blocking only measures 9.5 inches, but will lie very nicely when it is blocked without having a "stretched" look to it. The side measurements of unblocked clue #1 matches unblocked clue #2.

As a side note the whole "frogging" discussion has kept my family entertained. Now when I have to frog something it is done with the sounds of "Rip it! Rip it! Rip it!" in the background!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have definitely learned alot in this very new crochet adventure and for those who are having difficulties, hang in there!!

"Frogging" was a new one for me, too!

Ditto! I had to ask why it was called frogging! I like the 'rip it' 'ribbit' comparison

I'm confused as to what the finished size of this should be... when I click the link for the blocking template for clue 2, it just opens the one for clue 1 and 4 again. Am I missing it somewhere else?

Used an I hook for Clue 1 and it worked great and using the same for Clue 2 and it worked out. It took me two days and a couple hours each day to get because I didn't want to rip-out. I just took my good old time reading the instructions for that round, looked at the graph, then crocheted a few stithes and went back and reread and looked at the graph again. To some it might seem time consuming, but it worked out to the right size and more importantly without having to rip-out a round or two. Hey, I figure I have 7 days to get it done, mind as well use em!

I'm not sure where I read it, but the tip on crocheting loosely was a big help to me. I've aways stuck with easier patterns and never liked to challenge myself, so this is turing out to be a great experience.

Happy crocheting all!!!

I have 4 blocks done and two to go. Was having tension problems, but I have figured out how to get my blocks to 11 inches without blocking. Instead of weaving the working yarn through my 4 fingers I only weave it through 2 fingers and the blocks come out to 11 inches. The tension really looks loose but if it gets the blocks to 11 inches I'm all for it. I am using a J hook same as I did for the first clue. :knit: :bravo:

Hi all!

It sounds like some members are having trouble with rows 5 and 6. The full afghan has been tested by four professional testers and an additional four of us in the Design Studio, and we have not encountered any errors. It can be confusing because of the parentheses, so if you need additional help, take a look at the chart on the second page.

In order to double-check and see if you have done the clue correctly, head over to the completed photos post to see what the final result looks like.

There are also some folks who are having trouble getting these motifs to measure 11”, even if their clue 1 was right on gauge. There are a very different series of stitches in this clue, and gauge can vary significantly with different techniques and patterns. It can be difficult to calculate an average gauge across different patterns. If your motif is too small, first compare it to the size of your clue 1 motif. If it is also small, line one edge of the square from clue 1 with one edge of the octagon from clue 2 - if these two are the same length, your blanket will seam together fine (though it won't be the same size as the pattern says it will). If your clue 1 and clue 2 are not the same length by a half-inch or more, consider going up or down a hook size as needed in order to make your motifs match.
