I'm glad I started late. I got to learn from everything you all posted here and my first clue 3 octagon (though I'm still tempted to say block :) ) came out perfect the first time using the J hook I used on clue 2.

This is a wonderful CAL (my first) and I'm glad I'm here with you all. I love the shapes so far and would never have thought of doing anything like this on my own.

To the designer of the pattern :bravo:

I'd like to make a suggestion to whomever designed the instructions: I'm having a hard time reading the grey print! Is it possible to produce future instructions in a darker color?

wow! just finished my first motif for this clue.........looks sooooooooo complicated on paper, but it is actually not that bad! :D I am certainly not what you would consider an experienced crocheter (started a yr ago), but between the text and diagram, I got this relatively easy. Only frogged one round but got it on second try.

I am soooooo loving this project and everything I am learning. I'd never even looked at a diagram pattern before now either.
:bravo: to Bernat!

LarcYarn wrote:Just like in Clue 2, I'm not breaking yarn and reattaching (between r4 and r5) . I have slipped up the outside loops of the star arm from r4. It rotates my rounds by one arm, but it looks the same. As I did r 5, I enclosed my slips, as if they were not there, making them hardly obvious.

Nice pattern this time! I'm liking the harder one!

I did mine this way also. After you posted on the last clue about slip stitching I thought I would try it. I like how it worked out and also did the same for this clue. :cooldude:

Okay, this clue is kicking my butt- not sure if its the "left-handed thing" or just a "crazy jen brain thing". Poor Elaine- I'm heading into work soon, you know I'll be seeking you out, begging for guidance! Thursday, March 1st, the day I will beat clue 3... please... I hope... lol

Ok, I know it was recommended to do this with no distractions (i.e. no tv or kids around) but I couldn't wait that long to start. I managed to get halfway through round 3 before breaking for dinner prep. Once the kiddos were tucked in bed though I came back and almost finished my first motif. I am a probably considered a newbie, (I was taught as a child but then have re-taught myself this past year) so it took a lot of re-reading the clue and consulting the chart :reading: . I was rounding towards the finish line feeling pretty proud of myself when I realized I made a mistake in round 6  so I did what any other person would do, tucked it away for the night and went to bed.

I think my problem was trying to find the ch1 spaces to put the double crochets in on either side of the Tr2tog's. :idonno: which then spriraled into a problem in round 6. I'll take a look at it again this afternoon.

Now that I've finally been able to get my clue to print (slight printer malfunction not Bernat's fault) I will be starting this when my little boy goes down for his nap this afternoon. On a partially off topic note: The hubby and I went to Asheville, NC and spent Yesterday and the day before there as a mini-cation. It's a beautiful place that has lots of artsy craftsy people!!! There are galleries and shops everywhere!!! I stopped in a couple yarn stores and could have spent out entire vacation in them just touching the yarn!! I never really considered myself a specialty yarn person, but I came across a few skeins of the most delicate feeling mohair yarn I've ever seen in my life. It makes me wish I could afford specialty yarn a little more often. Does anyone know if Bernat has a mohair yarn? I could probably afford it much easier than I could afford the other at $25 a skein. The cheapest I found was like $15 a skein. Just a bit much for me to spend on such a small amount of yarn.

I found Clue 3 much easier than Clue 2. But I did crochet my daughter a "chaos quilt" last year with something similar to this star shape.

I had to teach myself how to crochet left-handed since my mom is right-handed and I couldn't figure out what she was doing many many years ago. She brought me a wonderful little book "Crocheting for Left-handers" (one for knitting too but I just could wrap my brain around that one. :? ) The only difference in my crocheting is that I stitch the opposite way the charts.

3 down and 3 to go on first and then to second afghan. :cloud9:
