As you can see from the picture, I used the hook shown for both and they came out different sizes, even though the labels for both yarns were very similar in size, weight, skein length, hook size suggestion, and stitches per inch.

The Waverly yarn has a lofty, light texture. I think it adds a tiny bit of "umph" to the way the stitches "stand up"....so it affects the gauge a tiny bit.

Very true, I also thought others might like seeing the differences between the Waverly yarn and another yarn. :cooldude: I am loving the differences! I am getting excited to see the end results and how these motifs will all go together.

Thanks for showing the comparison. I'm using waverly yarn and was wondering what 'other' yarn would look like in some of these clues.

I really like this popcorn square! I forgot how much I like doing them!

The brown one is Waverly Stone Brown and the yellow is for my "STASH-ghan"

YOur photos are all so wonderful!! Now I need to decide which colours I am going to do mine in - and what yarn. Here in Oz we don't have the same yarns as you folks, but I have access to plenty in my own stash anyway lol

I am thinking that I need to get some of my lovely ladies that I teach to have a look at this CAL and join the forum to play along. I think they would enjoy this and its something they could do at our group each week.

I really do need to finish the other 4 projects I am in the middle of (I am a bit of an overachiever and always have several projects on the go  ).

Loving the inspiring photos. Darn it!! I want to get started already!!!!!!

Looking forward to catching up with you all. (I only found this CAL today ;) )

Only had to frog it once  :D

But, you can't get any closer to 'gauge' than this :D

I won't be blocking this one. I don't want to take a chance on flattening the popcorns and it sure doesn't need any stretching :P

One down........

Hello - Not sure that my square has been done correctly in looking at the other pictures on here. Here is a pic of my square. I think I'm doing something incorrectly but cannot figure it out. I am an experienced crocheter but not a lot of experience with the popcorn stitch. I did watch the video but it's hard to determine if the square is the right idea from that video. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure, but it looks like there is something not quite right with the top of the popcorn. Maybe when you are connecting the first and 5th dc you may not be pulling the top together enough.
I found that when I was making the popcorn, that if I went "into' the previous popcorn, it did not puff up. Maybe check if your are going into the popcorn, or the stitch that creates the popcorn. Good luck!

It looks to me that when you crocheted into the popcorn you worked into one of the dc stitches instead of into the back of the stitch/center of the popcorn. Does that make sense?

Absolutely makes sense. I'm pretty sure I did not go into the back of the stitch, more like the top of the third double crochet, but can't really tell other than it looks all lop lollied :hrmm: I've only done two of the squares, thank goodness, so I think I'll just take your suggestions and start all over again. Thank you so much.

Yes, I think I had a hard time distinguishing the top of the popcorn and the top of a double crochet and ultimately I think I went into the top of the double stitch instead of the top joining stitch of the popcorn. I only made two squares so I'm going to start over again and take this wonderful advice you all have provided. Thank you so much. Maybe my next picture will be better.
