How many skeins of MC should we use for this clue? :scared: :reading: :helpme:

I am new to this forum. This is my first CAL and my first afghan. I have been crocheting for about 8 years. I taught myself from videos on YouTube. Learning to crochet saved my life. I took up crochet when I quit smoking and have not had a cigarette in 8 years. I got a late start on this CAL but have finished clue 1 & 2. I have started on clue 3 and I'm hoping to catch up to everyone by the time we reach clue 6. Reading through all your posts has really help me along the way. I have been able to see problems and solutions before I get to the motifs. Thanks for all your help. And it is nice to be crocheting with all of you.

Welcome! This is my first CAL and afghan as well. I taught myself crochet last year via You Tube. I had been knitting for about 3 years prior to that. I have found the forum to be extremely helpful and motivating.

Congratulations on 8 years smoke-free!

Thanks. I taught myself to knit at the same time. I love knitted fabric for clothes. But I can crochet faster than I knit so it is great for household projects.

Hi! I just started the CAL last week, too. Maybe we can start the late bloomers club! I have done all of #1 and some of #2, and I'm trying to catch up too. Crocheting keeps me from eating (mindlessly) in the evening. Congrats on your 8 years smoke-free!

Thanks. Sounds like a good club to me. It has help me with the eating too. I found out a awhile ago I had high blood pressure. So I went on a very strict low sodium diet and in two months I was off all my meds and in about 8 months I had lost a hundred pounds. Kepping your hands busy really helps to keep you from snacking. Now I just need to figure out how to exercise while I crochet. Then maybe I could lose the next hundred pounds I need to lose.

I am new here also, and like you crocheting is saving my life. I started back crocheting in January after quitting smoking,(I smoked my last one New Year's Eve). Congrats on 8 years! :bravo:

Thank you. And congrats to you. Keep it up you can do it. Just keep reminding yourself of the money you are saving by not smoking means the more yarn you can afford to buy. The hardest time for me was in the car cause I couldn't crochet and drive. Good luck.

I think I am a real odd-ball because I have used the H hook for everything so far and they have all turned out to be almost right-on the templates. I really don't hold my yarn--just let it flow through the fingers of my left hand.

Same for me until this clue. Not sure what is going on...I don't hold my yarn,either...

I am using the Waverly yarn and I have found that my hook size and tension depends on the COLOR of the yarn. For clue #3 I used an H hook for my MC but had to go up to a J hook to get the proper size in Contrast C; same motif two different size hooks!

I've noticed that the colour of the yarn seems to affect the thickness. I read somewhere on this forum that the dyeing process can affect it. Still seems weird to me.

Off to a slow start on this clue. Yesterday was just too nice a day here in the Northeast to be inside, so once kiddos got off the bus we were outside, then when we moved inside and I thought I might be able to start the clue, I noticed that my dog had gotten sick in his room while I had been away :tears: So time spent shampooing the carpet, then dinner, then quick errand...now kiddos are tucked in bed, can I start my clue? Nope, now I have to sew the straps on the mermaid tears bag for my daughter's birthday. I'm not complaining, just wish I could find a way to put more hours in my day. (wow I sound like my mother now  )

Maybe this afternoon I can start clue 5 while going over spelling words with my son
