MC 1 1/2 Skeins, A 1 Skein, B 2 Skein (minus the one 4" square made in clue 1), C 1 Skein, D 3/4 Skein

Did you make 4 octagons with color A in Clue #2?
And 4 octagons with color C in Clue #3?
Those clues should have used up quite a bit of the two skeins of each color.

You will need enough of MC to make 2 more octagons, some seaming, and part of the border after this clue.

Yes I did make the correct number of Octagons in both clue 2 & 3 and they are all the correct gauge. I know I have a really tight tension, but GEESESH! To have that much left over...really?! As long as I don't have to buy more yarn I won't be as upset. I can always use the leftovers in an ugly quilt or ugly snuggie or something like that. I just have such a HUGE stash pile I have been trying really hard not to buy more yarn than necessary for my current projects. I am working like a mad woman to get through my stash cause my husband says I can' t buy more yarn until it is at least 1/2 gone and this makes me really sad! Not buying yarn is like trying to not breathe! I had to BEG to be able to do this project! Thank goodness for being pregnant and having a reason to make a brand new blankie from new yarn!

I think I am a real odd-ball because I have used the H hook for everything so far and they have all turned out to be almost right-on the templates. I really don't hold my yarn--just let it flow through the fingers of my left hand.

You aren't the only odd-ball! I've used the H hook for all but last week's clue, I did have to go up to an I for that one for some reason. I very rarely have to change hook size, I always seem to make gauge.

Things have been crazy around here this week and I have not had time to try clue 5 again--it may be a couple more days before I can get to it--family parties so it is good fun!!!! I am going to start with a G as heyheycrochet suggested. The first one I tried was waaaay toooo big so I am going down in hook size. I will let you know when I actually have time to try this--very thankful for up-coming catch-up weeks!!!!

Lotacurls,
Maybe instead of chaining five at the beginning of the round, you could try this technique instead. I found it very tricky the first few times i tried it. You have to really anchor the yarn with your index finger as you twist the yarn around the hook. After I got the hang of it, it has become second nature and I think much neater.

That is a GREAT!!! Technique! I unfortunately have finished all 18 of my Clue 5, but will try this going forward. I have always hated how the chain looks in the finished squares...

Hello everyone, well I have finished clue 5 finally, had to keep putting it down when I was at work...imagine they wanted me working too! lol Or my grandchildren needed me to get them food or a drink, so 3 days after getting the clue I have completed the 6 motifs. I like how this motif is on the simple side as it allows the others that have a raised or more complicated pattern shine through. Can't wait for the next clue on Wednesday! Hope everyone has a great week while waiting for our next installment. :cloud9:

I decided to order one more skein of my MC. I only have 1skein and a little bit left of the 2nd skein. Seeing that we have to make 2 more octagons plus seaming and border with the MC, I know I don't have enough. Not sure about the other skeins. They are just a shade under 1 skein each. :scared:

I do have 2 skeins of color B but I'm guessing I'll be using them next week. I hope anyway.

Thinking of going down a hook size...my first one for clue 5 was just little over 11 inches. Do you guys think I should do that or keep with the H hook? :hrmm:

I've used the same hook throughout and none of mine have reached gauge. However, they all fit with each other, except clue 5, which is bigger. I'm hoping that the 'stretch' in the others will even things out when it is all sewn together, as the other clues are 'denser' than the last one and should give more (she says, hopefully!) I don't know if this is any help or not!
