After reading all the other posts, I'd just like to say HURRAY to whoever designed this CAL. You have to be a designer, artist and mathematical genius to get these motifs to meld. As an artist and designer myself, it takes a lot of work to think of something that will appeal to experienced crafters and also allow beginners to participate. For everyone who has complained, just look at the chart. It is so self-explanatory. You can also fudge whatever is bothering you. Turning a beautiful round doily into a perfect octagon is a mark of sheer genius.

Gotta say I haven't even started this clue and I am already annoyed. Hopefully it will all work itself out in the end. Grumble Grumble...

Don't be annoyed! This is a fun clue! It's a happy clue! And we deserve one after last week's annoyance!

It's not really that wonky, seaming should straiten it up pretty.

Agreed! I like this one! It's pretty - if a little finicky! :cloud9:

It just looks so out of place with the rest of the nice rounded "petals" of the flower. I'm seriously considering changing the end of round 1 from "CH6. Join with dtr to first sc" to "CH11. Join with sl st to to first sc. bo." Then starting round 2 at a sc (which it already does) and re-joining my yarn with a sl st and continuing on with the pattern.
Am I insane? Or is anyone else really diliking that one stitch?

That is exactly what I did, the chain 11 it looks so much better. Now I have to change thenext round and sc in the 6th chain.

Just finished playing with my first octagon and wasn't loving it so after a redo and a break I decided that I wasn't feeling how the edge laid out. I wanted my corners! So I just moved over a dc from each side making the corners 2dc, 2ch, 2dc, and losing one on each side so it would be 2hdc, 2dc. that way I wasn't losing or adding any stiches just a little rearranging. I'm so much happier with the result.

Mine also doesn't have a straight edge, it's curved like the first one posted. It matches up against the other octagon edges so this is one that apparently will "straighen out" as it is joined to others.

I enjoyed this motif. It wasn't as complicated as I first thought. I changed row 6 to end with 1 sc and 1 dc into first sc instead of the the chain 3. I did this so that all the sc's in row 7 would be in spaces.

bigfunfam wrote:Here is my first one. I made some changes. Instead of rounds 1 & 2 I made dtr clusters with chain 5 spaces in between. Then I worked the pattern as written until the final round. I used all dc on the final round including an extra dc in the sc between the chain spaces ( so it makes 13 dc, ch 2 repeat around). It doesn't look like it will need blocking, yay!

I haven't started yet. I'm a bit worried :scared: because of all the posts but I like your picture, so I'm going to try doing it your way.

First one done (I had to rip it a few times as I ended up with one too few clusters....TWICE!) This is my B contrast motif (porcelain red).

Nope. Shandeh still has to learn how to DO this clue first. Ha!

I just use a spray bottle of water. Squirt mine until they're soaked and leave them overnight.
