The Mystery CAL Blankets are great for beginners, because you learn so many different stitches. Of course, it does take time and patience. And it will get better with time. That's why I always take it slow with each clue. I'm still learning crochet as well.

Me too .. I found the chart was not detailed enough but between the written pattern and chart I got it to work.

Well .. I finished one motif and to be honest I don't like this one at all. It's definitely pretty but it's too light and airy for me. I want an afghan with substance that feels warm and heavy when your cold and need to snuggle.

I'm going to go back to one of the other, heavier clues and repeat that. Frogging my first one .. :hellogoodbye:

Loving all the colours that everyone's posting. Gorgeous work.

As an artist and designer myself, it takes a lot of work to think of something that will appeal to experienced crafters and also allow beginners to participate. For everyone who has complained, just look at the chart. It is so self-explanatory. You can also fudge whatever is bothering you. Turning a beautiful round doily into a perfect octagon is a mark of sheer genius.

I agree, Angelart! You expressed my feelings exactly! I consider myself an intermediate to advance crocheter and have enjoyed doing these motifs. The best thing about this CAL is I have learned how to read crochet charts better. I am a visual person so charts work great for me with the written instructions to clarify when I get stuck.
So to add to Angelart's HURRAY, I say THANK YOU for the great motif designs. :bravo:

I agree MzMolly, this looks like nice doily or shawl pattern or something, but I would like the same kind of afghan that you are thinking about, that at least feels warm. I tried bulking up the middle of this clue 6 a little with the solarium afghan idea with the petals and will see how that goes. Everyone's does look very pretty though. But the problem is, which other clue are you going back too, they are all light and airy. I have made two motifs that I posted under the vintage octagon pattern, the bed of roses afghan (or something like that). Now that is HEAVY! It incorporates many of the same motifs that are in this CAL and it is so much heavier, I don't think it would fit well with this mystery afghan.

Just out of curiosity... is anyone's piece way bigger than the other ones? I know it's not blocked and that will make some difference, but mine is much bigger than the other ones. Should I take it apart and re-crochet or will I be fine? Anyone running into the same problem?

Now I don't feel so bad. I hate this motif. It just isn't an afghan square to me, it's a doily. It is too loose, too light and lacy and they definetly aren't male friendly. I don't care for those 'show' afghans that just sit on the back of a sofa or folded on the foot a a bed for 'pretty'. To me these 6 squares will always be weak points in the afghan. I am thinking of 4 of clue 5 in color B and 2 of clue 2 in MC.

Finished my first Clue 6 motif.

Athough I am not fond of the light lacy feel of this motif I am willing to see how it all comes together in the end. 8-)

Not fond of the lacy look of this either, think I will also use one of the other clues for this one.
