I have another alteration I think will work better....

rewrite as follows:

6th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. *Ch 3. Cluster in last sc. 1 sc in 3rd ch of next ch-5 sp. Ch 3. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * around, omitting ch 3 and sc at end of last rep. ch 1, hdc in first st to join round.

This will set up round 7 much more evenly, allowing you to start from the middle of the ch-3 sp you just finished (i.e., the ch 1, hdc combination to join the round works in place of the ch 3, sl st.).

just another suggestion.

I've enjoyed reading about everyone's work on this clue.
I haven't tried it yet, so I'm sure I'll be reading all of these posts again! :)

I did that too  I didn't understand why they started round 7 in an sc when all the other stiches in round 7 were in spaces :hrmm:

Finished my first Clue #6 motif! It was tricky but not too hard (for me). I love the lacy look of this octagon. Doo18, that is great advice on the Round 4 directions....one step at a time. :bravo:

I was not going to sleep until I finished this motif..I was afraid to lose my place. Its not as hard as it looks, I thought the instructions were a bit confusing though. I used the diagram quite a bit for this one. Looks beautiful. This would aslo look beautiful in crochet thread..hmmm next time! Time to get some zzzz's nite nite! :hellogoodbye:

Just got home from church...trying to decide if I should make one more motif before I go to bed or if I should save myself the thinking and head to bed :idonno: knowing myself I will hit post and pick up my hook, but this is a serious thought for me...for the moment anyway ;)

also...in round 1, i changed the close to ch 5, trtr (treble-treble). basically YO 4 times instead of 3. It leaves the petal more centered to start round 2.

I too was very glad of a more challenging clue. The last one left me frustrated cuz it was too easy after the couple before it. And I really like the look of the finished project. It was nice to be reintroduced to the "cluster" as this pattern calls it - I haven't used that one in a long time.

Finished all of clue 6 for my Mom's afghan, this is her Birthday/ Mother's day present since they both fall in the same week, sometimes even the same day! I am working on 2 more, one for each of my sisters, should have the 6th done on one of those today, the other one was started last week so still have clues 4,5 and 6 to do on it. Working today so I won't be able to crochet as much as I'd like  . I am liking the way this is coming together and clue 6 is so much fun! Kudos to the designer, I have learned a lot during this challenge, and I've been crocheting for years. :bravo: :knit:

I finished my first motif for this clue. :bravo:

The instructions are more intimidating than the clue. :idonno:

During the cluster, I kept trying to figure out how many loops I should have had on my hook, :?: because as written with the draw through all loops on hook - I kept trying to figure out how to get more than the 2 loops I had left on my hook.

After I got over that hurdle, they were actually pretty easy, and the spot to put your hook is really the only place to put your hook, but when it says to only draw up a loop, that wasn't working, so I put it through both loops and then it worked.

I don't like the outside round. I think it's because of the switch between the hdc & dc, that the corner doesn't intuitively sit where the break is. :hrmm:

I think I'm going to follow someone's suggestion and go to 2hdc 2 dc in each space and then the 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc in the corner, to make it more of a corner.

I'm okay that the outside is rounded, because I haven't blocked anything, yet (no good place to do that when I'm watching 6 kids from ages 3 to 9 during the day) so, I might try that this weekend when it's only my 3.
