Didn't care much for the suggested colors or the layout for finishing, but love some of the alternate versions you've posted - the diagonal design by kathieh is much more interesting & also like the idea of making it all in one color. Now I just have to find the time to block & assemble all these pieces. =)

I agree, I never would have picked this one to work on had I known what it would end up as. Saying that, I feel I have learned many new stitches and am nearly over my fear of seaming!
The overall design is growing on me and I really feel unless it is kept on the back of a chesterfield or a bed that no one will ever really see the full design at once. If it is folded you won't see it all, if it is on you I imagine it being tucked in and crinkled that again you won't see everything at one time.
I would also like to point out they never ever gave us colour suggestions for this, the tutorial was pointing out how you might like to pick colours. But there were never any official suggestions in there.

Yes, they did. There were suggested colors from each "family" on one of the original PDF links from the color tutorial. That's how I picked mine. :)

Here's the link: http://www.bernat.com/2012mysteryafghan ... gested.pdf

This is positively the first time I ever saw this, so I apologize for my error. I only ever saw the topic from the Waverly designers

So after playing around with my motifs, I think I am settled on this one. I'll figure out what to do with the other 2 at a later time!

WOW what a fantastic idea...I've already almost completed seaming mine together as to the original pattern but I really like what you have done with yours. :bravo:

Your colors are the BEST they blend so very nice !!!! :notworthy:

daverett wrote:Okay, here's my layout; I've still not quite decided about how Clue 5 turned out. I may go back and re-do them so that just the first two rows are contrasting colors and the rest of the rows are MC; I think that may fit in better with the rest of the blanket.

wow you really knew what you were doing when you used more than one colour per motif
It looks amazing.
I think that the individual motifs seem to disappear when there are so many plain motifs in the same MC shade next to each other.
But the shapes and patterns really look different and special in several shades each.

Actually, there WERE official color suggestions for both the KAL and CAL, using each of the Waverly color families.

Pretty! I think those small squares at the edges will make pretty points.

I decided to put the off white popcorn motifs around the edge and to put the smaller square motifs in the center of their corresponding color hexagons. I tried laying it out the "Bernat" way and it looked too "messy" with my color choices. I have enjoyed this CAL and have learned so much. I love seeing how everyone's afghans have turned out!
