Halfway done the first 3 strips. Still need to seam the other half then seam the long edges together. This is taking too long! exactly why I avoid projects like this.
In fact, my dear daughter saw what I was doing and asked me why I would start something with so many pieces in it since she knows how much I hate finishing. I had to tell her I do finish some things, she had the nerve to ask me like what!! teehee! So I have just got to finish this so I can prove to her I CAN finish something. It is so tedious though.
And ... I don't really care for the layout, but so I couldn't change my mind I set it up in strips, safety pinned them together by the corners, then laid out the next strip till I had six strips pinned. Then I have been grabbing a strip, seaming it, tossing it back on the pile and grab the next strip. This way I have to go with the official LO. If in the end, when the border is on and I still don't love it, I am certain I can find someone who will LOVE it for themselves. I never had a true purpose for this, a semi hopeful purpose, but no real intentions like so many of you have.
Now off to bed so I can finish seaming the strips tomorrow so I can get one step closer to proving my daughter wrong!

All the colors look "warm" except for the mauve, which looks out of place to me. I bought lavender, since the room is mostly pink with accents of green and purple. The gold is the oddball, but looks good to me next to the other colors.

I also like the idea of moving clue #4 to the outside to break up some of the solid main color. I also moved the contrasting flower centers to the original flower, keeping them all one color. So far I think I like these two changes better...and even the mauve is starting to look better to me this way.

I think that this is what I'm going to do to. I started to seam it together without looking at the layout and now I have to pull the first three rows apart! That's what I get for being a beginner!

Very nice, Karen. I really like the way it gives it a finished look! :-)

Thanks for posting the pictures.

I prefer a symetrical design so I changed up the colors of four of the 5's and one of the 1's and added a 4 to make this design:

Then, I changed it up a bit (edited):

I think I got it uploaded right this time. ;)

:bravo: I too prefer a symmetrical design... thanks for sharing... I am waiting to see if the border helps the original layout... otherwise I may use your idea

Love it, crochet fanatic. I prefer symetrical as well so I may join you. Although I liked generationsue's too. Not sure if you saw hers. Here's a picture of it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/generationsue/6896547766/

Because of my color choices, i'm considering a slight variation (Clue 4 around the outside edges). I have all afternoon to contemplate this... then it's sewing time :)

Oh, I like that! I may have to do mine that way too! :)

vallerisb wrote:While I love all the motifs and individual pieces (and learned a great deal along the way, even as a somewhat experienced crocheter), I have to admit if I had seen a finished picture of this I would have never started it. That being said, looking at the layout of my own pieces, I only hate one color choice. I have ordered two new skeins of yarn and will try to replace those pieces (one flower consisting of four octagons and one center) and see if that moves me a little better.

It's funny because I picked all my colors from the "Past Perfect" theme, except for one oddball (the gold). And to me that one oddball color looks better with the other colors than the one suggested for that theme (the mauve). Oh well...

Am also doing the KAL, but didn't start until a few weeks ago. So I was able to see the layout before picking my colors. So I am now more excited about working on and finishing that one than this one.

I love your color choices and I think the different centers adds to the flowers! Very pretty :)
