Crochet-Along Clue 7 (Week 8)

I want to say thank you to Bernat for having this CAL. It has been fun, challenging, and engaging. I love the fact that I was able to finish each of the motif in less than a week. I spent the interim time finishing up a multitude of WIP that have been laying around forever. I had a tendency to be a bit unfocused switching from one project to another when I become bored or overwhelmed by it. Thank you for keeping me focused.

Hello Everyone! I wanted to thank you all for your posts, tips, pictures and advice. It has kept me motivated and has encouraged me to keep going when I know I would have stopped at the 1st sign of difficulty. I am equally greatful for the week break. I only have 1 motif and a bit left for clue 6. I started a few weeks later than others and thanks to the positive and excited comments on this forum decided I wanted to be a part of this fun. I have learned many things about crocheting and it feels good! I have decided that I would learn how to post here and I am determined to get pics up too! Now, back to my last motifs!

So nice to hear from you! So, you've been a silent participant all along. I wonder how many other silent crocheters and knitters there are? Would love to hear from all of you.

I am another one that has been following along and love all the tips, pictures, and motivation. Also talked my sister into doing this. She doesn't have a home computer so I give the clues. She only got upset with me once for being late with the clue - didn't get it to her right away. Something called meeting at work had me doing other things.

I have all the pieces for the crochet one done but haven't decide if I am going to block or not. I have also started the knit one but I have given that one the name of Frog! It will be sometime before I finish the knit one. Learning lots of different stitches in crochet and knit.

I have 4 individual rows seamed together. Taking a little break right now because seaming my incense color is a little difficult on the eyes due to it being so dark. I'm also prepping for a colonoscopy tomorrow so I have that stuff to deal with today also. I am finding one motif has more stitches in it then the little square so I'm having to fudge it together a little bit. Don't remember which motif clue it was but it is just one that I need to fudge. I double checked it with the pattern also and it does have more stitches then the others. Made one mistake on first row but think I will be okay with it. I would unseam it but I can't find my end to undo it. So will make do with it.

Hope I like the finished afghan as I didn't lay it out due to no place other then the bed. And If I lay it out on the bed I may just crawl back into bed and go to sleep. Didn't sleep last night, stuff on the mind all night.

The hardest part of the colonoscopy is the prep IMO (that and waiting for the doc report )

As for the motif that you are off on, if you can live with fudging on the seaming....go for it, that is what I would do and no one but you will know what you did. So sleep tight, and if all else fails you can nap (perhaps) after your test tomorrow !!

Time to start stitching.....I am back in KY with my mother who has gone downhill fast with the cancer. I am hoping to have the afghan done so she can see it. My sister and I have decided to place this CAL afghan on her coffin when she passes in lieu of a flower spray, thanks to a suggestion from our aunt. If you look back with my posts, the colors are my non-Waverly yarn which are totally my mother's colors. I will post a picture of the afghan when I get it completed. Thank you to all of the Bernat Forum members who have sent me encouraging messages and letting me know you are praying for us. All ya'll are the BEST!!

Your Mom would be proud of the decision you and your sister have made. May your Mom go in peace surrounded by her loved ones. My prayers are with you.

My MC is white and my flowers will be bitter rose, blue gown and irish moss. I am really excited to put it all together and see how it looks! My little baby girl is gonna love her blankie! Plus I will have enough extra yarn to make a matching pillow for the rocking chair in the nursery!

Ok, I'm not sure if I like the pattern, but that's what this has been about for me. Stepping out of my comfort zone and not just making a rectangular blanket, but following patterns and charts.

I still have a couple of clue 5 to finish and a couple of clue 6.

I'm not sure how this is going to look, but I'm going to go with it and go ahead with my plan to give it to my Mom for Mother's Day. I don't think anyone has ever made her anything like this. Usually it's a Grandma present to my kids, so I think that will be a nice surprise for her. (I hope!)

So, guess I have to go finish those motifs and start sewing, after I find my yarn needles. Had two really nice, big ones and I can't find them. I'm pretty sure "Not me" did something with them. (You know, where you ask your kids who did something and they all answer, "not me." - he causes lots of trouble in my house!)

If 'Not Me' try 'I Dunno', that was usually the one in my house.....

Anyway, your Mom will be thrilled to receive the afghan and that you made it for her. Also, thanks for the first part of your post about stepping out of your comfort zone. I was tempted to set the whole thing aside as the finished afghan isn't quite to my liking (although I love the individual pieces). I now think I will go ahead & finish my afghan and complete this CAL!

I'm really disappointed with the fact that the layout is not symmetrical. Afghans don't work well as blankets if they aren't symmetrical. I'm interested to see what kind of border it will be though for an odd shape like this.

When I start and finish the seaming is the proper way to tie them off just weaving in like you do a normal crotchet piece. Thanks for any help I am new at this and am not sure how to complete this blanket, but that is what this project has been about learning new things.

Yes, weave your ends in the same way you would in other crochet.
Personally I am seaming mine together in strips using the tails we were suggested to leave on, As I complete a strip I double check to make sure all my ends are all tied in. Then will seam the long edge of the strips next. I will use a new piece of yarn to seam the strips to each other.
