Crochet Along: Finished Blanket Photos

I have been having the most horrible time getting it together. What is the secret? I cannot tell you how many times I have had to take it apart and start over!! I want to take it outside and burn it but the yarn is fire retardant and would only leave a melted pile of plastic as a forever reminder!! I am going to give it one more try and hopefully it will be done and I can do the border.

Are you having problems with the layout or the stitching method?

The layout!, and I am an experienced crocheted!

Except for tucking seaming ends, I am finished--I love the way it turned out and even though it is shades of blue, it is very feminine. Thanks Bernat--this has been tons of fun!!!!

Thanks, tal, but I cannot take credit for it--I got it from "ambivalent"'s beautiful blanket. I can copy but am not that creative.

I copied the layout "ambivalent" posted during the week of "guess what it is going to look like," but any would do and there are tons of new layouts on the "finished blanket forum" now. I tried multiple layouts on a double bed until I settled on Ambivalent's.

After I got it the way I wanted, I used short pieces of of yarn to tie the pieces together at the corners. Some people use safety pins but I have had a problem with them getting caught in the yarn. I tied at the corners so it was not difficult to locate them later. I moved the "tied-together" afghan to the diningroom table, rolled one side of it so I could work on seaming the other side; as the seaming progressed, I rolled the seamed side also and worked in the middle. I cannot do something like this on my lap.

I used the method of seaming from the Bernat 2010 CAL and it really doesn't show. If I had it to do again, I would probably just use my main color and not try to match yarn colors to what I was seaming since it does not show.

I am not sure if this is going to help you any but hope so. Good luck and post again if I might be of any more help.

Here's what my afghan looks like. I stayed with the Bernat official layout. However, I was tempted to stray to a couple of the gorgeous alternate layouts posted. For the border I used colour D. I made a slight change with clue #6 to give it a more fuller look and am very pleased with it :0)

I finally finished my blanket after much frogging! I tried several layouts and while I absolutely loved the official layout, it just wasn't going to work in our den as it is my husbands domain. I'll use this as a lap blanket while we are watching tv, etc. I'm surprised that mine seems to be the only one with this layout, but maybe that's not a good thing?? I also wanted a more masculine border, so did my version of fringe. I really enjoy the CAL's, this is my second one, and can't wait for another. Jennifer

I finally made the time this weekend to take pictures of my project. This has been so much fun but posting these photos really brings it to an end. This was only my 3rd crochet project but with the step by step guides and all of you very helpful bloggers, I was able to finish!
I was excited to see the flower pattern because my inspiration was a flowered coverlet. It was too perfect! The SC boarder in the MC didn’t work for me so I pulled it out and changed the colors to match the pieces I was surrounding. I did the first SC in the back loop but when around the second time with a SC in the center of the stitch (not sure the technical terms for that). I am really happy with the 1” boarder it created. Thank you to Bernat for putting this together and to all of you for your help and support!!

I ended up laying all my pieces on my floor in the arrangment I wanted. Then I took a picture and then printed the picture. You could also print the picture you want from the finished blankets here. As my picture was only in black and white and hard to see, I ended up writing "green", "white", etc. on the appropriate motifs. In some places I had to write "clue 4" or "clue 6" on it too. Once I had a visual copy, that paper was my lifeline. I decided to join my blanket in long stips of motifs and later join the long strips together. I always had my picture nearby so I could grab the next motif based on where I was in the picture. I even put a checkmark on the motifs on the picture after I had seamed them together. At times I was very organized and had the unsewn motifs waiting all in order in a pile and could just grab the top one. However 2 cats and my 4yr old child usually meant they didn't didn't stay in order for long

Please don't give up! I'd hate to think you spent all this time for nothing, especially since you are so close to having a beautiful new blanket. If I can help in any other way please let me know.

DJP2day, Great job with the colors. Perfect match for the coverlet, they look really nice together. Congratulations on completing your 3rd project.

I love the border. I would have never thought about a chain border. Great Job.
