I agree, the less joining the happier I am! I think I complained my way through it last year, but worth the effort.

A lot of people were dragging their feet with the joining part, but they were all inspired to finish theirs when they saw others posting photos of their blankets coming together! :)

I don't mind joining. I always remind myself to stay careful and slow, because I don't want all my work on the squares and/or motifs to go to waste. I want the joining and seaming and edging to be just as nice as the squares were.

Never done a mystery CAL before. Nothing like seeing the results without looking at a full pattern and picture first. How exciting!!! Can't wait for Wednesday.

This is my first time. Decided to do the CAL as I crochet better than I can knit. The hard part was not choosing the colors but chosing which would be Colors B, C, D, etc. Hard to know when you don't know how they will go together. But that's the fun. Can't wait until the 15th as I'm itching to get started. Looking at all the beautiful yarn just sitting there....

This is my first mystery afghan, also. Iam so excited to learn new things. Joining is hard for me also, but maybe they will give us tips and the only way to conquer something is to do it.

I notice so many posts on gauging. I never do that. I know that I knit and crochet tighter than most, so I just go up a needle size. Is it vital that I create a gauge swatch?

No. It's not vital. If you are consistent in your work, you should be fine as far as piecing the blocks together. It only makes a difference as far as how much yarn you will end up using and the size of the finished afghan. And since you know you work tight and tend to go up a needle/hook size, then you are probably good. ;)
