Thanks! After I posted, I realized that the way I arranged the hat makes it look uneven toward the bottom, but it isn't. Also, even if you cringe about picking up stitches (needed for the ruffle, and after knitting the bottom of the bootie), this pattern makes it easy because it's pretty much a 1-to-1 between existing stitches and the number of stitches you have to pick up.
