Crazy Eights Shawl

Postby txcatgirl » Mon Jan 16, 2012 12:11 am

Has anyone made the Crazy Eights Shawl? I just finished my first motif, and although one end of the "eight" shape stayed nice and flat, the other end curls upward somewhat on the right side. Am I doing something wrong? Will it come out all right when the motifs are sewn together and edged? I am using Mosaic in Fantasy, and this colorway is absolutely beautiful (I knit a similar scarf in Ambrosia last year), and it works up quickly. Can't wait to wear it, so I hope I'm not misunderstanding the pattern somehow. Thanks!

I haven't made it, but here's a link to the pattern, so others can see what you are referring to:

I spoke with the designer of the shawl and she's not sure what the problem is based on the info. Which end of the "eight" shape is curling upward? Her best guess is that loosening your tension a bit would make the curling stop. If you have any more info on which side is curling I can see if there's help to be had!

I am a tight crocheter so that might be it. I'm making another motif tonight, trying to pay attention to tension. :)
Thanks for checking with the designer; I love this pattern as much as last year's Scallop Scarf with Mosaic!

I am making this too for a friend. Some of the motifs lay flatter than others and I think it was my tension. Also, for the first one my count was off till I noticed the note at the top about the CH 3 was counted a DC. Have two more motifs to do, but I think the ones that sort of curled up will be fine after it is all stitched together and edged.
Have you finished yours yet?
