help with hooded sweater

Hi. I am fairly new to knitting. I have a Bernat pattern for a hooded sweater and the pattern calls for US size 8 straight needles and US size 6 circular needles. The instructions start out: Front: With A and larger needles cast on 91 sts. My question is what is A needles? I'm lost before I get started :helpme: please :)

Does this pattern possibly use two or more different colors? Usually with those instructions you are being directed to use a specific color and your larger needles, in this case your size 8 straights.

The instructions are telling you to start knitting with Color A, using your size 8 needles.
