Gosh, I know what you mean! TONS of paperwork, and it's not cheap either!
And you are right about the "society" thing.

Maybe that's why I've put off joining for so long. Ha!! :lol:
I think I'll just stay "me", and tell everyone about my ancestry, instead of worrying about having to qualify with a committee.

My grandmothers tatted, too. It looks pretty complicated! I have a beautiful apron my Swedish-Norweigian-Irish grandma made when she was a teenager...it's crocheted with cotton thread. It's an intricate lace pattern.

One of my great Aunts tatted. When I was little I remember being mesmerized watching her work that tatting shuttle and the beautiful lace that would appear like magic. She was a true believer in 'Idle hands are the devil's workshop' and always had her tatting or crochet work next to her. I have a doily made by her, one by my great grandmother and one by another great aunt.
