Thanks,

Here's the Ravelry link for that pattern, but the link to the free pattern is no longer working. Maybe you can check with some of the 50 people who made that project in Ravelry, to see if they still have the pattern available.

Vintage Learn to Crochet by Bernat book 152

Postby crochetnut » Fri Nov 09, 2012 10:09 am

i was just given the Learn to Crochet by Bernat, book 152, copyright 1968, and in it is a pattern for crocheted mittens.
It calls for 2-2oz skeins Bernat Nylo Germantown yarn. What would be a good substitute for this yarn since bernat doesn't make it anymore?

I also need substitutes for the following yarns also:
Bernat Berella Germantown 100% orlon Acrylic 2 oz balls
Bernat Sesame (germantown weight) 100% finest virgin wool worsted 2 oz.
Bernat Berella "4" 100% orlon Acrylic 4 oz ball
bernat 50/50 nylo knitting worsted 4 oz skeins
Bernat knitting worsted 100% finest virgin wool Worsted 4 oz balls

Thanks for the help!

All of those yarns are worsted weight, so most of Bernat's medium yarns will work. Super Value, Mosaic, Giggles, Denimstyle, Waverly, Satin, Handicrafter Cotton, Sheepish. Of course, you will want to do a gauge swatch before deciding what size hook or needle to use for your work.

I actually have some of those vintage yarns in my stash. I'm making a scarf right now with the Nylo Germantown.
