Bernat Baby Blanket yarn

Postby Maurorless » Thu Mar 29, 2012 9:00 pm

Hello. I purchased four large skeins of Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. Very pretty. Unfortunately I would like to knit very small blankets for donating to labor and delivery, NICU and for babies who have died. I can't seem to find any patterns that use this chunky yarn to make small blankets. I mean small as 13-15 inches square. I can't find a description of the yarn, i.e., chunky etc. so I could perhaps use patterns not in the Bernat website. Is there anyone out there who has knit small blankets using this Baby Blanket Yarn? I'm quickly running out of all the other yarn I purchased for the small blankets. I will truly appreciate any help, assistance or ideas. Thank you. Maureen

I used that yarn to make a basketweave blanket, using the Bernat Stitch Gallery as a guide.

All you need to do is make a little gauge swatch, to figure out how many stitches per inch you get. Then decide about how many stitches you will need to cast on to make your blanket the size you want.

Here's the pattern for a basketweave design: http://www.bernat.com/sg_kn_basketweave/

Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn

Postby Bradleymath » Sun Jul 08, 2012 11:18 pm

I want to crochet a blanket using Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn. I have already used the patterns on their site. Does anyone know of any other patterns I can use with this yarn?

I knit a basketweave blanket, using the Simple Basketweave design from Bernat's Stitch Gallery

I used size 11 needles, cast on 72 stitches, and used 5 small skeins of Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. I’m a tight knitter, so keep that in mind when planning your own blanket. You might want an extra skein, just in case. My finished blanket was 36 inches square.
