KW - baby's booties questions - HELP ME, PLEASE! :)

I am trying to follow the Bernat KW Baby's Booties pattern, the one with the cuffs. I have several questions and nothing is coming up on my google searches or youtube searches with specific instruction. a lot of these steps are steps I have never done before and i am extremely confused. Would some kind soul please help!

1. What is the instep in this pattern? I am assuming it is the area from the heel to the back of the ankle because it is only 5 rows, which is pretty short. A lot of people say it's the top or bottom of the foot. There are so many disputed answers to this but for this pattern, is it the back of the heel?

2. What is 'sew back seam'??? is this to create a ridge on the outer edging? that's the only thing that I can think it can mean at this point.

3. What is the 'at centre back' step? I do not know what this means, either. What is the centre back?

I have a photo of my progress so far.

4. I began the half double crochets in what I thought was the correct place but it looked weird so i unravelled it. I do not know where to add the slip stitch, at centre back. Does back just mean on the back side because RS facing is the front?? I cannot find helpful information for all of these terms.

Any deciphering would be helpful!

Thank you!

I think that these terms are pretty common, though, when working with socks, booties, slippers, etc. and am basically seeking instruction on these steps and terms that are unfamiliar to me. I sent an e-mail inquiry as you suggested. I would actually like to learn these steps. Could you help me?

I have never made this pattern before, so I won't have all the answers you need. Since you have several detailed questions, it's best to wait for Customer Support.

If another forum member has made this bootie, they are welcome to offer their advice here.

Is this the pattern you are using?

I just read through the pattern. So far, you have made the cuff, and did the instep.

The instep is the top of the foot. That little piece you added on is the top of the foot.
If you fold down the larger piece toward the instep, and turn the sides back, you will see the folded cuff.

The next part of the pattern is for you to seam up the back of the cuff. Then, you will have a completed cuff and the top of the foot (the instep).

After that, you will just follow the directions, starting your work at the bottom of the back of the cuff, and working around the bottom edge of one side of the cuff, then around the instep, then around the bottom edge of the other side of the cuff.

That's all I can decipher so far, without making it myself. Most patterns make sense as you make them. It's hard to understand them unless you have the project in your hands.

Hi Bella85,
Shandeh is right; so far you have made the cuff and instep, or top of the bootie. While I have not made this specific pattern, I have made cuffed booties using a pattern that is almost identical to this one.

To sew the back seam means to fold the cuff you made in half, joining the edges to make the top part of the bootie. Once you have the back of the cuff sewed together, that seam should basically be the center back. This is where you will be starting to make the remainder of the foot part, going from that center join, around one side of the instep, across the front of the instep, and back again around the other side.

Hope this helps! :hellogoodbye:
