Need Pattern Help - (knit) Capelet

Hi Everyone,

I could use some help in this pattern - I need to know where exactly to place the markers listed.

1st row: (RS). K2 (Left Front). *yo. Knit next st. Place marker on last st. yo. K6 (7-8) (Sleeve). yo. Knit next st. Place marker on last st. yo.* K22 (24- 26) (Back). Rep from * to * once more. K2 (Right Front). (4 marked sts).
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: (Knit to next marked st. yo. Knit marked st. yo) 4 times. Knit to end of row.

This is what I visually come up with for the 1st row:
o= knit
Y= yarn over
x= purl

ooYoYooooooYoYooooooooooooooooooooooYoYooooooYoYoo

Do I place the marker physically in the stitch when the pattern says "Place marker on last st." or do I place the marker on my needle after I knit the stitch but before I do the next yarn over?

The reason I ask this is that I seem to get off on my count of stitches on my 3rd row. I would think each end section should have the same number of stitches in them.

Place the marker on your needle after the YO K1 then do the next YO making sure to always do the YO K1 on the stitch before the marker then slipping the marker before you do the next YO on each of the following rows, The K1 stitch will stay constant as you YO on each side of it and the line of holes will line up perfectly on each side of it. The fronts will have the same number of stitches
