When you do the long tail cast on, you will have four strands of yarn in a "slingshot" formation in your left hand. Your right needle will work to the LEFT of the first strand, then the RIGHT of the third strand, then IN BETWEEN the first and second strand. Then, you will drop the two strands from your left thumb, and tighten it up.
