Ah got it. Thanks Karenarp and Shandeh. I will get bamboo needles once I have master knitting to the fullest. However, I have to put this project on hold. I am currently working on a blanket for my husband that calls for a total of 1224 2" squares. Not sure what I got myself into but since I started, I am determined to finish. Might take a while. Hopefully not to long because I am itching to get started on this!

Whoa! That's a LOT of tiny squares!
Are they knitted, crocheted, or sewn?

You could always make your husbands blanket while working on other projects, just tell yourself you need to make (20) a week (or pick any number that will let you finish the blanket when you want). That is a huge commitment to make a thousand plus squares at once. Just keep all supplies together (in a box, bin, bag, container...) and nearby so you can grab and go with it. Like when on car trips or visits to waiting rooms (do we ever really see the doctor!) you can challenge yourself to make a square. This way you can still try and work on other projects to break up the monotony.

Then again, that is just me, I couldn't work on something so large and only work on that. I tend to have a few large projects going and a few smaller ones during. Makes it feel like I am actually getting somewhere being able to say I finished something with the small ones!

Or once a week if you have enough squares made to see the pattern then you could take the time to start seaming them together and tie in ends. Will make the end feel like it came sooner or at least you won't dread the finishing so much!

They are crocheted and then slip stitched together. It's like a quilt. Here is what I have done:

I totally agree. I had to stop for a min and do a shrug for my sister who is graduating from Massage School. I am almost done with that. And then back to the blanket I go. I am worried if I start on the cozy, since I am still not that skilled at knitting, that I will lose my place if I take a pause from it. I think it deserves my undivided attention, so to speak. Does that make sense?

It's purely a matter of preference.

Some people say that bamboo needles will get smoother if you wipe them down with waxed paper.

When I first tried to knit with DPNs, I used a set of metal needles. . .I became really frustrated because the stitches kept sliding off the needles. . .it really hindered my learning to work with DPNs. :x I read somewhere or saw a tutorial about learning to knit with DPNs and the instructor suggested using bamboo when one is first learning to knit w/ DPNs, due to the "grippiness" of the bamboo. I tried that, and it made all the difference n the world. I still prefer bamboo DPNs, for the grabbiness of them (and how lightweight and quiet they are) -- but every now and then, metal feels good when the need for speed and smoothness strikes. I also like Birch because polished Birch feels like the best of both worlds. :knit: It's a texture thing. . .which is one of the bazillion things I love about knitting! :inlove: :knit:
