mixing yarn weights?

Have you ever mixed yarn weights in a pattern? I want to make a crocheted afghan using a variety of left over yarn. I found a pattern I like that uses black as a main color with rows of different colors between the black rows. I have a lot of sport weight black yarn but most of my other yarn is worsted weight. Do you think I could use both weights in one afghan?

You could try, but the sportweight yarn will not work to the same gauge, so it would draw in your work, and be thinner as well. I would not recommend it, though.
