I'm Cathie and I've lived in North Louisiana for 39 years now. Before that I was an Air Force brat and never lived more than 6 years in any one place.
I first learned very basic knitting in England at 8 years but coming back to the states stopped that... no one in my family knitted but I picked it back up when I got older. I started sewing at 9 using my great Aunt's old treadle Singer to make Barbie clothes. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 19 and living in North Dakota(you had to do something to save your sanity in the winter). I started with long scarfs and beanie style hats for the teenage girls that lived around us and it took off from there. I also counted cross stitch and digital scrapbook. I can digital up a storm but give me scissors, punches, paper and trims and I turn into Bozo the wonder Chimp  I am a voracious reader but had to cut back from the 4-5 books a week because I was frying my eyes.
I come from a long line of crocheters...3 great grandmothers, both grandmothers, 2 great Aunts, one aunt and my godmother all crocheted. Unfortunetly I was never around them long enought for them to teach me.

For almost 20 years I did in home child care for people who worked odd hours. There was only one day care here that was open all night and it was on the other side of town, so independent child care was a must for 3-11, 11-7 shift workers. I stopped when my last one aged out at 15 (you couldn't trust the him home alone, he liked incense and candles but was scattered brained about not leaving without blowing them out). It was hard quitting, I had him from the time he was 18 months old.

Been married for 33 years and have 2 step sons and 5 grand kids, 3 boys and 2 girls. The boys are 23, 19 and 8 and the baby girls are 6 and 3.

I am so glad I found this forum, no one around me crochets or knits. This has been a fun place.

Do you knit and/or crochet?
Crochet but would eventually love to learn to knit. Baby steps...

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting?
A little over a year, although, I've been teaching myself, on and off, for the last 30 years. Yikes, that's a long time to learn something

Where are you from?
Originally, New York City, now Long Island, NY

What are your favorite things to make?
Not sure yet. Being newly addicted to crochet, I still have a lot to learn but I've enjoyed every project I've worked on, thus far. I've made a variety of things in the past year, baby blankets, baby booties, baby sweater with hoodie, pot holders, a floor mat, a few ladies bags and even split the work of a sampler afghan with a friend of mine, that I was able to convince, that crochet is the best thing ever and even taught her (with my basic knowledge) how to crochet and now she's "hooked" as well. :D

What other hobbies do you have?
With time being my biggest enemy right now, not many. I eventually want to learn to sew, as well as knit.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved"
I'm whispering "I get lost!"
That is why I chose this way.
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need someone to be my guide.
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and cannot ever pay the debt.

Hi, I'm Kayro and I live in Texas (and it's really hot right now)

I started crochet when I was about 8 when my grandmother taught me. I took up knitting about 6
years ago and learned the basics from a book and then found a co-worker who was also learning and
fortunately she was a bit ahead in the learning process.

I love to read and I love spending time with my grandkids...one of the girls is learning to crochet !

I have done 2 of the KAL's and learned SO much..love that there is help so readily given, knitters have
big hearts !! I mainly make hats for the NICU at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. I make a few blankets
that are very simple and lightweight for very small babies.

I just finished moving next door and have "cleaned" house (twice) and found a treasure trove of yarn !!
This has rekindled a fire and I'm knitting hats like crazy.

This site has been a blessing, if there are other knitters in the Metroplex who might be interested in meeting, I'd be up for a lunch or chat.

Hello Kairo, Too bad, I'm not from Texas but we visited relatives in Allen (just north of Dallas) last 2 weeks of July. We also went to Corpus Christie. Not a good idea to visit the Lexington in that kind of heat!!!When we left july 31st, it was 105 F. We just loved our stay and enjoyed every minute of it.

Hi! My name is Pat and I live in Guelph, Ontario, Canada!

Do you knit and/or crochet?
Yes, I do both. I enjoy both so don't really have a favorite.

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting?
I started to knit when I was about 6 years of age. Mum sat me down and said that she really didn't like to see all of my dolls with no clothes on so I should start to help her knit some new ones! LOL I'm 72 now so that was about 66 years ago! My! how time flies!

I worked part time in the 1970's on the switchboard of the hospital in Richmond Hill on the night shift and as you can imagine, there were many hours of no phone calls or people asking directions throughout the night so I decided to learn to crochet. Mum had tried to teach me using thread and one of those teeny weeny steel crochet hooks but the stitches were so tiny I lost interest. I found a book by Paton's "First Steps to Crochet" which used Sayelle and a size 6 hook and off I went--to the races!!!

I married in 1961 having met my husband in Seminary in Toronto and we went off to Northern Ireland to live the next year where I lived for about 5 years. During that time, I learned to knit Aran sweaters using the real mccoy of yarns still some with thistles in the wool and lots and lots of lanolin. How I enjoyed this. I started to work for a wee shop down the road and started to knit aran sweaters to order for clients who wanted a panel of "this" and a panel of "that". Lots of fun!

Where are you from?
I live here in Guelph, Ontario but was raised just north or Toronto in what was called in the "olden days", "Lansing" which later became "Willowdale" and then became "City of North York" and now is a part of the Greater Toronto Area! After moving back to Canada, we resided in the Richmond Hill area and then in the mid-1980's moved to Guelph which I love dearly.

I remarried after my husband of 40 years passed away, to an American widower from Virginia so we travel back and forth to VA and Ontario all the time.

What are your favorite things to make?
I really don't have any favorites. I just knit what's needed and right now, my focus is on a baby shawl and the Baby Sack in the KAL for a first great grandchild expected in January.

What other interests and hobbies do you have?
I am a Christian and love my Saviour so I spend a lot of time in my church fellowshipping with other believers of like faith. I love music and have played the piano and organ for many, many years and used to teach piano as well.

I love reading and start off my day with Bible reading and learning new and wonderful things within those pages. Phil. 4:13 is my favorite verse or I guess I should say [i]one[/i[ of my favorites!

Photography is my main hobby besides knitting and crochet and cross stitch, etc. I use a Nikon D80 DSLR camera and enjoy it very much. I also enjoy HTML and have four websites--three I own and one I take care of.

Let me know when you're in the US again. Maybe we can have a cup of coffee or tea together. :)

I have a Nikon too, but it's nothing fancy. I do love the photos it produces, though. I am gonna go check out your photo sites now! :hellogoodbye:

Isn't it a wonderful thing to find a new friend online? That's one of my favorite parts of a forum community. We are able to share and find common ground.
