I'm Cathy and I taught myself to crochet almost 2 years ago! I learned to knit as a child and am very unconventional in my stitches PLUS it takes me a loooong time to get anything done so, I prefer to crochet! I love to learn new stitches and crochet about anything especially amigurumi and character hats! Nice to meet you all!

Well I am a person who loves to knit and inspire others to knit. I would say the last 3 years have been difficult but knitting has certainly been my anchor. I am helping to look after my mom (with my sister) and my nights there have been taken with the mystery afgan knit along. My mom loves to see the squares finished and we try to guess how the pattern will turn out. My mom has been a knitter for 80+ years and has now just started knitting simple squares. I told her the pregnacy center needs blankets for the little ones and so off she goes.
I have been knitting on and off for about 35 years - what a joy.
I do enjoy going out for coffee any time of the day. I sing in a coral group and that keeps me busy as well.
I have two adopted grand girls (3 & 4 years old) and they are a joy to be around.
Not much else to say except when gardening season comes I do enjoy a rainy day so I have an excuse to stay in and knit and bake- that would be my next favoriate thing to do.
Be thankful for the talent you haved been given and use it to help better this world.

Hi All! I'm Suzanne

Do you knit and/or crochet? I crochet
How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? I learned to crochet almost 20 years ago. My first project was going to be a doll's blanket but my stitches were so tight that I it curved so I decided to make it a detachable peter pan collar. about 10 years ago or so I was visiting with my son's grandmother who was learning to crochet and I picked it up again with her.
Where are you from? I've lived in Chesapeake, Va. all my life.
What are your favorite things to make? I like to make most anything but I prefer things that have few ends to tuck. That is my least favorite part of crocheting. I actually left a blanket unfinished for about 2 years because I had to tuck so many ends. I made stockings for myself, my son, fiance' and his 2 kids for Christmas this past year and was going to attempt to make myself a sweater when I read about the CAL.
What other hobbies do you have? I also like to cook and read.
Suzanne

Hi, my name is Patricia. I live in Saratoga Springs with my s/o Robert. My two cats, Miss Lilah & Lucy.

I crochet and knit. I have a closet full of yarn and good intentions of using it :knit:  At least that is what I tell Rob!

I've been crocheting forever! I only started knitting a few years ago. I'm currently working on the CAL and really enjoying that. I like the mystery of it!

I'm also a newbie to this forum. I enjoyed getting to know all of you through reading your posts. I am a grandmommy to 3 year old Hunter, mom to 3 cats, 1 dog and 2 grown daughters. I am doing both mystery afghans and the knitting is really challenging me.

Do you knit and/or crochet? I do both but much better at crocheting. Both grandmas, one grandpa, my mom and my aunt all knitted, sewed or crocheted. I then passed it along to both daughters and will teach grandson when he is a bit older. Though he already has his own balls of yarn and loves to watch them unwind as he pulls on the end and loves to play with my lighted crochet hooks.

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? My grandma taught me to knit when I was 6 and since my 56th b-day is in 2 days that was almost 50 years ago, wow. I didn't really take to it but Mom and I stayed with my grandparents when we first moved back to CA and with mom, grandma and sometimes even grandpa knitting or doing some fancy work (as grandma always called it) in the evenings I wanted to to something too. I also learned stamped cross-stitch then.

2 years later my mom started crocheting an afghan. I was fascinated by what she was doing, so I bought a ball of pretty blue yarn and a blue crochet hook (still have it too) and asked mom to teach me. After endless chains and stitches so tight it was hard to get the hook through I finally learned all the basic stitches and was off. In high school (1974) I started making a crochet tote bag with cotton thread, my first project with a small hook. I entered it in the local fair when it was done and won a BLUE ribbon!

Where are you from? I'm a Native Californian that moved to Shreveport LA as a baby and back to the Oakland bay area at 6 years old. That was when we lived with my grandparents till my dad sold our house and moved too. Grew up in Livermore CA, met my husband when he moved in across the street and had both my girls there.

Several years ago after hubby had a heart attack and couldn't get private insurance in CA when he wanted to cut back his work hours and go back into being self-employed (software consultant) we moved to Spokane WA, where he is from. Our youngest daughter had already moved up here and WA is one of the 3 states that you don't have to answer the big questions on the health history if you go through the 18 months of COBRA insurance.

It has been a big change of pace living up here and SNOW but I like it ok. Got lucky to be able to keep a foot in CA that hubby still works for a company in San Francisco and they want him on-site one week a month and I travel with him. 2 years ago our other daughter, her husband and grandson moved up too! They are still living with us as son in law was out of work for over a year and still isn't working full time. Grandson will be 3 tomorrow and he is my JOY, it is so much fun having him living with us.

What are your favorite things to make? Right now it seems to be scarves, I can wear a different one each day of the week. Keep finding pretty yarns and colors to make more too! I have made sweaters, hats, scarves, shawls, toys, afghans, purses, slippers, flowers, pincushions and many other things over the years. I have gone years but I always come back to crocheting, it is my first love!

For knitting I have tried several times over the years but have only managed a few scarves and hats till now. This afghan is the first large project I've ever tried knitting.

What other hobbies do you have? Reading, Facebook game addict, gardening, cross-stitch, sewing, baking, playing with my grandson, travel, crafts, scrap booking, watching movies (I do a lot of crocheting while watching tv and movies), and cake decorating. I also have a passion for country music and go to as many concerts as money allows. My dream came true a few years ago when I got to meet my favorite artist, Kenny Rogers!! I would love to learn to spin yarn, I have been saving fur from my pets for years and want to spin it into to yarn as a lasting memorial of my furbabies. I recently found a local shop that teaches a class in spinning so it is in my plans for when I'm not traveling monthly anymore.
