Helpful notions:
- Stitch marker or piece of waste yarn in a color that contrasts with Contrast A.
- Knit
- Purl
- Garter stitch – knit every row
- Inc/Kfb – an increase where you knit into front and back loops
- Changing colors or balls while knitting
- K2tog – a decrease where you knit 2 stitches together
- Sl1. K2tog. Psso. – slipping a stitch knitwise, knitting two together, passing the slipped stitch over the k2tog.
- Working from corner to corner
- Blocking motifs
- Keep your ends about 12” inches long because you’ll be using them for seaming later. Tie those ends into a neat knot to get them out of the way!
- When casting on one stitch, simply make a slipknot and use it as the stitch.
- Keep a stitch marker on hand and mark the right side of your work so you know when to increase. It saves a lot of tedious counting (believe me!). Instead of a fancy stitch marker you can tie on a scrap piece of another shade of yarn.
- There’s quite a bit of knitting in this week, but don’t worry – this isn’t what every week will be like. Next week isn’t as many squares, and there’s a catch-up week at the end in case you have a couple squares left to make.
- Your blocks may not look all the same size, and this is why blocking is important. It will make sure your blocks are uniform, and it’s a good idea to start now and gradually block every square so you don’t do them all at once later!
