I'm really looking forward to this KAL. I'm making the afghan for my sister. Hope everyone enjoys it. If you need help, speak up :D

I take it to mean cast on 1 stitch. Then knit one stitch. Then purl a stitch in the same stitch. Then knit a stitch in the same stitch. So all 3 stitiches are made in that one cast on stitch. Can someone confirm this? :idonno:

I am stumped at how to get started! If I can get help understanding the first row I will be fine........ can someone help me?

I do understand how to knit in front and behind a stitch..... but this first row has me confused!

Absolutely, it's what we're here for, and what this thread is for!

Knit into the slip knot as a normal stitch, but don't slip the yarn off the left needle. After you wrap the yarn around your working needle and bring it back through to the front, wrap the yarn around counter-clockwise like you do when you're purling. Then, still without taking the yarn off the left needle, slip it back through the yarn on your left needle to knit it again. Then finish off like you're finishing the knit stitch for real. There should now be three stitches.

Did that make any sense?

Exactly! In that row you go from one stitch (the slip knot) to three.

It just wants you to knit, purl, and knit all in the first stitch you cast on.
Hope this helps!

Hi Trudi,

Do a search on youtube for "knit front & back." You'll find lots of videos showing this technique. I like to be able to see how it's done :D
