There are plenty of beginner knitters here who are in the same deep end as you are, but if you think about it: How are you supposed to learn how to swim if the water only goes up to your ankles?

So long as you keep at it, we'll keep at it. This is the biggest project that I've ever done, and the first time ever using a pattern. Thank Youtube for tutorials...

I want to make sure I am doing the color change right...
I ended color 1 on an all knit row - no increase, with 55 stitches.
At the end of the first row of color 2, I should end up with 53 stitches, right? somehow I was imaging a row with 55 in each color. :knit:

This is fun. I am not sure I love my contrasting colors, but I spent a lot of time selecting them and loved them when I got them, so I am trusting my gut :o

Well I did not get as much knitting time as I had hoped last night, but managed to get 3/4 of one square finished.
I like working with this yarn, and like the colors I chose but having anxiety over how I matched the colors to B,C and D. Have a feeling when this is done I am going to have wished I matched them up differently, but for now am taking the advise of the Bernet/Waverly people and hoping it will work out ok.
After all, the "mystery" is part of the fun. I think. :?

Also, just as a little encouragment to those feeling overwhelemed. When I did my first KAL with Bernet and saw ALL those squares were to be finished in a week...I wanted to kick myself for even starting. Was working 7 (long) days a week, am not a fast knitter and thought I would never keep up.
Somehow it worked out and I even managed to finish on time. The people at Bernat know what they are doing and plan well.
Once you finish the first of a clue, the rest will go faster.
And remember if you dont finish on time, the world will not come to a end.

When I do my straight knit row I count the number of stitches as I knit. Then I write that number down in a list on a sticky note.. It shows that I have finished a two row repeat and I just need to count the lines in the list to know how many repeats I have completed. When I finish knitting for the session I put the sticky not on the square. When I come back to my knitting I can count the number of stitches on the needles. If it is the same as the last written number I am ready to do an increase row and if it is two more stitches then I am ready to do the knit row.

I am having the same concerns. I didn't use the color advise of the Bernat/Waverly color peeps, but I used colors I liked together and wanted in my room. I even went so far as to make black my main color...Hoping I am not going to regret it. I read somewhere it should be a bright color, but I wanted black as the main theme. May the colors work well for all of us.

Way too much keeping track for me. After you have the first 5 rows done and the knitting is large enough simply put a stitch marker or safety pin on the increase row side. That way you know if you see the pin you increase and if you don't see the pin/marker you knit across. No counting or keeping track. On the second half for the decreases it works the same way. Decrease on the pin side and not on the blank side. This way all you have to do is count the stitches on a non increase row once you get close to having 55 stitches to know how many more rows to do. It will speed things up immensly especially since we have 8 squares of the same pattern to do.

I'm a beginning knitter and am so excited! After 4 hours I finally have one square done. This is time consuming for me but am very happy with the finished product! Thanks everyone for all the help! :D
