Glad you noticed that!
You might want to print out the pattern again, though....because we realized there is a mistake in it. You will repeat those 2 rows 24 times instead of 26. This will make 55 stitches before you change colors.

I must be measuring the square wrong. I kept getting way higher the 9.5 but I printed out the template and it almost fills it out. The square looks huge!

Are you measuring straight across, or from corner to corner?
You should measure straight across the square.

My squares are coming out smaller 8 1/2 Inches. I guess i am a tight knitter. Will i be able to block it to 9 1/2 inches, will it stay that size after blocking?

LOL! I have done a lot of crochet in the past, but the movement of my hand holding the crochet hook tends to irritate my wrist. So I don't do it much anymore. But I do love to put crochet edgings on some of my knitted projects.

i'm not a particularly experienced knitter, but i've had to crochet less because of the same irritation in my wrist when i do it too much. i'm a slow knitter, but the wrist pain doesn't kick in.

and like you, i had never knit on the diagonal either. it's so great to be learning new things as a group!

You might get faster at knitting the more you do it, but it doesn't really matter how fast we knit, just that we're enjoying ourselves! I have switched to knitting in the continental method because it's easier on my wrists. I love learning new things as a group, too, and getting to communicate with others while we work on the same pattern!! It's like we're all in this together!

i had never seen the continental method, so i went and watched a video... i might have to try that some time! it looks like it would actually be quicker once you learn it since your hands can stay on the needles the whole time.

I knit continental, too. I think it's quicker, but I imagine it will be different for everyone. That's also the style I originally learned. I never could get the hang of the other way.
