I tried to learn the throwing style (English/Western, whichever it's called) so many times and it didn't work out in my head. I think it was because I've crocheted so long. Then, learning continental just made sense. It clicked and I'm glad I stuck with it learning. I almost gave up on knitting forever since I was so frustrated.

I just finished my second square. Darn work getting in the way, and pesky need to sleep. But, now, I have several days off and will get these knocked out so I can start on the crocheted motifs.

I am SO frustrated!! I didn't do a gauge swatch and now I'm paying for it!! I knit my first square with the recommended size 8 needle. But it ended up being almost an inch too big! (My knitting has never been too loose before. And, honestly, I still don't think it is.) So I thought, "Ok. I'll use a size 7 needle and knit another square." But guess what!? It's a half inch too big! I'm not sure what to do. If I go down to a size 6 needle, then I've wasted my time on 2 squares. I know I can rip them out and reuse the yarn. But... :tears: Is the square too big because it's garter stitch? Should I use the squares if they end up being 10"? I don't want to run out of yarn because I'm afraid it'd be too hard to find more yarn in the same dye lot. So would I be better off to go down to a size 6 needle to see what size I get? Has anyone else gotten 9.5" squares with a size 8 needle? Just curious. :helpme:

I did my gauge swatch with an 8 and it came out right on the money. I finished my first square this morning and it looked huge; when I checked it it was between 9 and 9.5. So I just stretched it a bit. I normally am spot on with gauge. I think since we are doing a lot of increases and decreases it is making it difficult for me to knit as I normally do.

Well, I've been frustrated with the size of my squares, but I've decided to stick with the 2nd square I knitted. Near both ends of the square measures 9.5", but the middle measures 10". So maybe it is wider in the middle because of the way the increases are done. I don't know. However, I won't stay frustrated. Just gonna keep on making my squares since they're fairly close in size. I ripped apart the first one I made so I can reuse the yarn. I don't want to waste any of it. lol. Blocking them will make them square.

I absolutely LOVE the Waverly yarn!! :cloud9: It is SO SOFT and wonderful to knit with!! This is my first KAL and I'm really enjoying being a part of the forum. Can't wait to see what Clue #2 looks like too!! I looked at Clue #1 for the CAL just to see what it looked like and it's SO cute! I'm excited to see what both afghans end up looking like! So...one square down and 7 to go!! :knit:

After clue1, how many B balls left ?

Postby labrige » Sat Feb 18, 2012 7:01 am

:knit: With this first clue, we used a lot of the B colour ... :idonno:
So .... my question :hrmm: : we prepared 3 balls ... and, for me, I've used more than 2 (equivalent, because not the same yarn, but I used the conversion with the yardage), nearly 2 and 1/3
And you ???
Thanks !
