I ordered my Waverly yarn from Bernat on 2/14 and am still waiting for the mailman to deliver :hrmm: Hopefully by next Tuesday I'll be able to pick it up from the Post Office. I live in Puerto Rico and there are no stores here that sell suitable yarn and since I've nothing suitable for an afghan in my stash, I had to do the mail-order thing. I've been itchin to do an afghan and what better way than to do it in a mystery-type setting.

Once you have 55 stitches you knit the WS (you know how it said repeat the 2 rows? You do the increase and then you just knit). Then you add the 2nd color on the RS.

Yes we are making 8 squares total for week 1.

Thank you for the help, all most finish my first squares, then I will start the second one I will not have this done for next week oh well. I will keep working at it

Re: After clue1, how many B balls left ?

Postby Tami9120 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:45 am

 great question... :knit: I'm still knitting but was worried that I need to purchase more yarn :idonno: I'm using caron simply soft for my first KAL Michaels had only gotten part of the Waverly line and simply soft was 50% off with coupon. Soooo, I'm using that. I'm not extremely impressed with it though. I have found at least 5 breaks/knots. If I get back into town I think I'll grab another skein or two.... I just love the emotions in this blog. Wonder how I could get them for my email & fb

So .... my question :hrmm: : we prepared 3 balls ... and, for me, I've used more than 2 (equivalent, because not the same yarn, but I used the conversion with the yardage), nearly 2 and 1/3
And you ???
Thanks !

Salut!

Do you have to "block" if your squares come out the right size??

But it ended up being almost an inch too big! (My knitting has never been too loose before. And, honestly, I still don't think it is.) So I thought, "Ok. I'll use a size 7 needle and knit another square." But guess what!? It's a half inch too big! I'm not sure what to do. If I go down to a size 6 needle, then I've wasted my time on 2 squares. I know I can rip them out and reuse the yarn. But... :tears: Is the square too big because it's garter stitch? Should I use the squares if they end up being 10"? I don't want to run out of yarn because I'm afraid it'd be too hard to find more yarn in the same dye lot. So would I be better off to go down to a size 6 needle to see what size I get? Has anyone else gotten 9.5" squares with a size 8 needle? Just curious. :helpme:

Go on down to the size 6 needle, if that is what you need to get the gauge. I am using a size 5 to get the gauge myself.

I am using Waverly and also used more than two skeins of color B and was wondering the same thing. But we might be OK since given the dimensions of the overall afghan and the dimensions of the 8 knitted squares, we have already knitted over 1/3 of the total size. If we will need more, I would like to know, too, since I want to be able to get the same dye lot at the store I purchased the yarn at!
