I'm almost done with my 3rd square and just realized it's pretty off as far as gauge compared to the other two squares. The first two are a little bigger than the template, and that was after ripping one out and starting over (decreased size by an inch!), but I decided to just go with it and if need be, I'll buy more yarn towards the end. Should I just block this one and stretch it out to match the first two? It's probably about half an inch all the way around. What should I do?? :idonno:

Since your gauge is changing with the squares, I would recommend checking each square against the blocking template. Don't worry so much about counting stitches. Just keep it in the template.

That smaller square sounds like it needs some re-working. Blocking will only temporarily stretch it out. It will shrink back to it's normal size after washing. I would recommend unravelling half of it, until you have a triangle in the first color. Then, tie on more yarn of that same color to make the triangle bigger. Next, tie on the 2nd color, and finish up the square. You will be happier with it in the end.

Thank you for your help! The problem more comes though with the sides not matching up. It's hard to explain. If I lay the matching corners of the two different sized squares together, the sides of the smaller square don't line up with the sides of the bigger square, so I'm concerned that adding more rows won't solve the problem. Should I just start over with this square or will adding on additional stitches fix this problem?

Well, maybe it would be best to frog it (unravel - rip it, rip it, rip it....)
Sometimes, that's our only option. :hrmm:

I am making two blankets and merci for the complement. However, so far I have only knitted 2 1/2 squares. My shoulder is sore! I hope your hand feels better soon.
Bonjour :knit:

When I get sore like that, I always take a break. Don't want to injure myself with my knitting!

So, I get out of my knitting chair, do some stretching, and walk around the house for a while. Sometimes, I will go outside and walk around the yard as well. Occasionally, I will turn on my Wii Fit Plus and do some exercises there. And sometimes, I just take a nap. :)

I feel the same way. I was knitting and I could see the stitches were just not pretty because I was getting tired. So i got some lunch and now I'm here in the forum. In about 10 minutes I will resume since I am still doing square 4 of clue 1 :knit:

Is there a way to shrink my square? I did the gauge and everything seemed OK but my first square for week 1 came out 10x10 instead of 9.5x99.5. I went down to 4.5 for the next square but I really don't want to re-knit the first one. Any tips?

Thanks!

There is no way to shrink your square. I'm sorry. :(

Block 1 KAL

Postby StitchDesigner » Wed Feb 22, 2012 5:38 pm

Yeah, I know I'm starting late. If anyone else is also starting late, try this: I prefer to slip the first stitch of each row. Row 1 is OK. All Even rows are Sl1 as if to p, then k to end. Row 3 is the same. Row 5 and all subsequent odd (RS) rows will be Sl1, Inc1, Knit to 2 sts from end, inc1, k1. I'll figure out something for the decrease section.

LOL! Glad I only got one square done for clue one...allows me to switch my colours up a bit with the release of clue two...not sure black would highlight the uniquiness of the pattern for clue two!
