I love to look at all the pictures to see different interpretations of the same pattern.

Thank you for your kind words.
I am feeling much better now. Thank you again.

I went down a hook size. Is it me or my hook/needle? I am finding my stitches are now so tight I am having a hard time moving them along the needle. My larger needle set was Bamboo, the one I am using now is metal. Do you find a difference? How do you get the tension better? Should I run out and buy a bamboo set in this size? Is there another option besides metal or bamboo? Is one better than another? What is your preference?

I remember why I gave up trying to learn to knit a few years back. It was this whole tension thing. Either too loose or too tight. Getting it just right seems impossible. When I think it is just right it ends up being too loose.

Maybe I should head over to the knitting forum instead of the clue one to get the best answers? I did count my stitches across and have 17 in the four inches. Close enough to 16 right? I don't have 4 inches knit yet on length so cannot measure that as of now.

Can i just say what made my day!?! Well, my aluminum needles included with the "learn how to knit" kit were too small after getting to the wide part of my square. (yes i just learned to knit a week ago). So i used my a.c.moore coupon and got awesome bamboo needles and they are so lightweight and. . . awesome!!!! Wow those others were impeding my knit-along progress!! Totally inspiring!! :-)

Just finished all the squares for clue #1. Here is a pic showing my colours. Can't wait to add more colours and see what they all look like when knit together. Bring on clue #2!

I like using bamboo, but my favorite is the Addi brass needles or Lantern Moon straight needles. I personally think you find what your hand feels most comfortable with and go with it. Knitting with tight stitches is not fun for me (hurts my hands). My advice: get needles that you like and go with them. Do not keep changing --- especially during one project. Start your project with what you plan to use throughout. My tension has improved with each project I have done --- yours will too :)
Try to just knit and not worry. Some knit loosely (always!) and some knit tightly (always!)....... This project does not have to "fit" anyone like a sweater --- it is a prefect project for you to learn with..... practice with!
Have a nice knitting day!

I would let the yarn ends dangle, so you will be able to use them to sew the squares together later on.

Having one extra stitch in four inches is not horrible, but you might want to try a size smaller needle to see if you can get closer to the gauge then.
