I know math isn't my forte, help me understand how these squares will be the same size.
Thanks :hrmm:

There are two reasons - the first is that this stitch, shaker rib, lays very differently from the other one, garter stitch. The second is that (as it says in the pattern) you will need to stretch the fabric out a bit to measure, because it will stretch that much over time.

I then tried to pick up a row of knits below the mistake and but when I redo it's not coming out right. I'm afraid I'm going to have to start all over again. This block was almost done! Hopefully it will look better in the morning. :hrmm:

This brings up a good question: Is it possible to "tink" the K1below stitch? :hrmm: If it is possible, how do you do it?

I haven't had to undo any stitches yet, but you never know when you might need to. :idonno: Any :helpme: would be appreciated on this. Thanks! ;)

I've been able to do it by treating the k1below I picked up as a knit stitch. When you tink it, you will have two bars on your needle, and like fixing a knit or purl stitch, you need to pull one bar over the other to fix it - but you have to make sure it's being pulled over in the right direction!

So does that mean that after it is stretched in the blocking, and then one day washed, it won't shrink back up to the size it was before the blocking like a lot of knitting does? Because if it does, then the blanket will get wonky where those squares are. Or will the square not shrink back up? :hrmm:

You will nee to stretch the square to measure and block, and over time the square should stretch to actually be the 9 1/2".

After I got my first 2 rows going, then I fastened a marker on the side of the fabric that is to have the K1below and purl side. (on our Clue 1 squares we put a marker on the side of the fabric that you would do the increases and decreases on - something different other than just knitting even). So this way, if I have to "tink" to fix a mistake, I'll at least be able to tell which side is which. :) I really like this Shaker Rib stitch. It creates such a nice texture and nice looking rib!

Make that one of those '80's frizzy perms! I also think they look a little like fluffed up popped popcorn!

The thing to remember is that the 55 stitches are on the diagonal. If you measure along that diagonal it is about 13 1/2 inches. Basic geometry: a2+b2=c2. Each of the edges are 9 1/2 in. on both squares, but if you measure diagonally from corner to corner, they will both be about 13 1/2 in.

Got a chance last night to start on the first square for this clue. Like the way it is looking and using the tail to let me know if I am on the right side or back for knitting. Also using the row counter so I only have to plau around with the first one for the right size and than I can knit the rest the same number of rows etc

I will try to make a video showing how to do that.
I might not be able to talk a lot, because I have a bad toothache tonight. :(
