I'm having the same difficulty with the first half's being larger than the second half that many others are having. My next try I'll use smaller needles for the first half and perhaps change to the original size for the second. I had read earlier posts and tried to tighten the tension on my purl stitches, but it obviously wasn't enough. All other clues were right on, but this square is almost 1 inch wider than the others. I'm keeping this square just in case. If the change works, I'll probably suck it up, smile, and frog it.

Here is my 2nd square done for clue 3. I used a size 6 needle for the first half and a size 7 for the second half. It is measuring correctly. I still had to stop at 47 stitches and just do the 2 knit rows and rows 1-6 four more times (instead of 5 more times as per instructions).

Guess third time was the charm on this square. By tighting my stitches and going down to 4.5 the first half finally became the right size. When back to 5 for second half and knit normally for the second half to be the right size.

1 down and 7 to go. Will be Sunday before I can do anymore. Have a all day work conference tomorrow and than grocery shopping so we can eat next week.

I'm happy to be done my first square for clue 3! Not that I have the other weeks' clues finished yet...

Here's how my first square turned out - colours Sun Drift and Blue Gown. I really love the texture of this square, I can't wait to see what else is in store for us!

Happy knitting! :knit:

love the blue gown & sun drift .. great combo .. i looked at using those colours but with the turtle green & greek sea they just didn't fit in my mind .. will definitely have to look at using those 2 colours for either another blanket or scarf or hat :)

and don't feel bad .. i still need to finish week 2 .. i got 1 done just so i could see what it looked like and i did 1 square of this week cos i really wanted to see how it looked especially since we used colour E .. i will still be behind this next week cos of school & work but i'll be making the new one on wednesday when it comes out .. then the week after is spring break so it'll be catch up week :D

Meliann based on what I can see in your picture, on the 2nd half it appears you didn't follow the K1 K2tog K5 K1 below then it decreases to K4 then K3 at the beginning & end, then repeated as you decrease .. so the little steps where you did the K1 below look like you did them all in a line rather than in a stair step or basket weave kind of style

Some of the squares might have some size issues, since the purl stitch is included.
Some knitters make their purl stitches bigger than their knit stitches, and this causes a change in the gauge.

Half of this square has purl stitches, and the other half has none. That could explain the difference for some of you.

:hellogoodbye: I was wondering today if it's possible that the K1below could be part of the size issues. Because when you K1below, 2 loops are being "knitted out" since we're knitting an extra row lower than normal. Does that make sense? And I noticed that when I K1below, the stitch is poofy-er because of the extra loop. I'm not sure if this makes sense to anyone else, but this is just something I'm observing as I knit. ;) I really am enjoying the textures of these 2 patterns in Clue #3! :cloud9:

My sister is near San Diego. Close to all those nice beaches. It's beautiful there!
She's been there for several years, and usually comes to visit NC about once a year. But last year, she brought me and my oldest son there to visit her instead. Paid for our flights and let us stay in her home. It was a very nice vacation for both of us.
