:hellogoodbye: Well, we're having a wind storm this evening and our power went out for almost 4 hours. So I put a flashlight on each side of me on the back of the couch, pointed them toward where I held my hands to knit, and finished the last half of my 2nd square and got a good start on the 3rd! When it comes to knitting, I will persevere!! :knit: :knit: :knit:

Re: Clue 3 - KAL - Gauge Problems

Postby docgrna » Sat Mar 03, 2012 12:55 am

I had the same problem with my first square. My solution, which seems to work after the second square, was to knit the first half until I had 49 stitches. When I switched to the knit two rows with Color C, I increased four stitches on the right side to get the stitch count of 53 and continued in pattern. This got my square to match the same size as my other squares.

Oh gosh, I remember days like that! My ex used to invite his kids for the weekend, and forget to tell me about it until the DAY they were coming! So, I was doing the MAD HOUSE CLEAN like you are talking about. Scrubbing the toilet, sink and tub. Mopping the floors. It was insane, and of course he wouldn't help at all. It didn't matter to him if the house was a mess when they came. :x

I hope the birthday party goes well tomorrow! :)

I always put a locking stitch marker on the right side of the fabric, so I will know when I am working the rows for that side. Maybe that's something you could do for the rest of your squares?

Both sides should be the same. It should be a square.

Umm, my first half of clue 3 is about a half inch bigger than the second half, and no amount of stretching or blocking will help it. The second half is right on gauge. Will it help to use a smaller needle for the first half?

Some people are choosing to do just that. Just be sure to write yourself a note on the page, so you'll remember to do that with all your squares for this clue. ;)

I wanted to comment on all of the posts regarding falling behind on your squares. The first week I stressed and knitted every free moment trying to get all eight squares done for clue 1 before clue 2 came out. I have now started to ignore the time issue. I do one new square each wednesday so I can ask questions and see other comments on the square so I am not lost. Then I go back and work on the unfinished clues. It is supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing to knit. That is just my opinion. Even if you are not done after the fifteen weeks (I think that is what it is) it will get done eventually and it will be beautiful! Just enjoy the process!

Well, I have almost 1.5 squares done of clue#2 and I can't wait to do clue #3, but I just can't move on until I finish the last clue :) I love reading the forum as I knit to find hints on how to make my knitting go so much smoother.

Now, I better put down the needles and walk away from the computer so I can clean house.
