So I put a flashlight on each side of me on the back of the couch, pointed them toward where I held my hands to knit, and finished the last half of my 2nd square and got a good start on the 3rd! When it comes to knitting, I will persevere!! :knit: :knit: :knit:

Now, THAT's what I call COMMITMENT to a project! :bravo:

lol my electric when out this week also. I hung a flashlight from our ceiling fan and knitted for 2 hours. Couldn't do much else in the dark. but had fun knitting!

On Friday robinamy posted a suggestion that I am going to try today.

I know people are finding different ways to even up their squares. I found what has worked for me is to start with one size needle smaller and stop the first triangle at 49 stitches. Because this is two pattern repeat rows away from the 53 advised pattern sts. I compromised, on the decrease part w/ color C after the two K rows, by skipping the 1st and 3rd pattern row and starting with the 5th. This has worked out perfectly and my squares are the same size as all of the rest. Also, for the second half of the triangle I switched back to the original size needle.

Last night I stopped the first half at 49 stitches but then couldn't figure out how to adjust the second half's pattern to continue. :hrmm: Thanks so much for this hint and I'll let you know if it worked for me.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. :( The second half of my square turned out too short compared to the first half. I haven't given up though. :|

I stepped down to a Size 7 needle, and it looks like my first square for Clue 3 is going to come out to 9.5 x 9.5. Will post a picture when it's done. I knitted 3/4 of the first on Size 8 needles. It felt like it was too wide, and indeed, it was. This has worked MUCH better.

So far so good. Finished clue #2 last night and am well into the first half of my 1st clue #3. Goes smoothly once you get the rhythm :knit: .

docgrna wrote:I had the same problem with my first square. My solution, which seems to work after the second square, was to knit the first half until I had 49 stitches. When I switched to the knit two rows with Color C, I increased four stitches on the right side to get the stitch count of 53 and continued in pattern. This got my square to match the same size as my other squares.

I'll be trying this hint next for my fourth try to make these patterns equal to eachother and still maintain the square's correct measurement. Your solution will lessen the span of the first pattern but keep the second pattern the same which doesn't seem to be the problem for most of us. Geeesh, this is getting frustrating!
I'm so happy for all of you that have found their solution. :bravo: I just want to get rolling on making this week's eight squares.

Halleluia...and thank you docgrna for helping me to FINALLY knit a square with both patterns evenly matched in size. After four days of trying your solution worked for me. :cloud9:
