Can anyone tell me quickly if they understand the following : when we change to colour C, the first thing to do is to knit two rows before continuing with pattern directions.

I also don't understand this.....

Yes, after changing to color C, you need to knit two rows with color C. Then, you start the new stitch design for that half of the square, continuing in color C.

I don't see 2 rows knitted before the 2nd pat. in the photographs....

I'm not sure but i have almost finished Clue 3. Should the 3rd row when using C read: K1.2tog. K4. *K1below. K5. Rep from * to last 7 sts. K1below. K4tog. K1.
And the same would go :idonno: for 5th row where the pattern says to knit to last 7 sts. should it not read to last 6 sts.? :idonno:

At the beginning of the row you worked 7 stitches before the K1below, so you need to work the same amount of stitches at the end of a row after the K1below

The rows should read as they're written in the pattern - they were tested by a number of knitters, and produce the desired result! Just trust that it will all make sense in time :)

Happy knitting everyone... :knit:

You must be a farther west than I am. No snow here, but I hope it's on the way! Sounds like we might be getting some tonight.

EUREKA - I finally get it. I've been knitting for about a year... self taught. I've read about gauge and tension thinking I understood, but with this clue I finally get it.
As I was knitting my second square and looking at my first square of clue number 3, I kept thinking that the yarn on my second color looked so much thinner and limp compared to the first color. And then the light came on  I finally "see" what is meant as tension. As I'm knitting the second square changing the needle sizes and trying to knit looser with the second color there is no difference in the look/texture of the second color compared to the first.
It's almost like when I was learning to draw and I finally "saw" the shadows and light that make up the object that I was trying to draw! :cloud9:

i've already ripped it for 4 times....help....tks

After finishing up the first half of your square, you change colors and start the new stitch pattern.
You will repeat the 6 rows of the SECOND pattern with color C. You only change colors ONCE with this square.

Sorry. When you say "the 6 rows of the 2nd pat" Do you mean row 1 to 6 of the 2nd pat?

Yes. That's it!

Written out starting with 51 sts. for the first of the 3rd rows: K1. K2tog. K4. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. (K1 below. K4. K2tog. K1, the last 8 sts.)

The first row is different in that the repeat is k5 then K1below. Rows 3 and 5 are K1below then K5. Make sense?
