Knit-Along Clue 4

Postby Kaleigh » Wed Mar 07, 2012 11:00 am

You make your final four squares this week! You’ll be working on the bias in two familiar patterns, and you finally get to break in Contrast A!

You’ll need what’s left of Contrast B and one ball of Contrast A.

Helpful notions:
  • Stitch marker or piece of waste yarn in a color that contrasts with contrast A.
Skills You’ll Use
Tips:
  • Keep your ends about 12” [30.5 cm] long because you’ll be using them for seaming later.
  • As with Clue 1, it’s helpful to mark the right side so you can keep track of your progress.
  • This clue also uses the technique of knit, purl, and knit into one stitch to increase. Members found this video very helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP_UHylNAMQ
  • Keep in mind that the first half of this square is a four-pattern repeat.

When you're done the week's knitting, why not pat yourself on the back and add a badge to your signature?

Just open the User Control Panel's "Signature" page. In the field where you type your signature, add the code below and you'll be able to show off your progress! It's a good idea to replace last week's badge with this one so your signature isn't cluttered :)

My goal was to only be behind 1 clue by the time the next clue came out! So far I have finished clue 1, almost done with 3 of clue 2 and just 1 square of clue 3. I am going to finish clue 2 then start clue 4. I will save 7 squares from clue 3 for makeup week. This also gives me time to see how clue 4 is going for other KAL's. After I did one square of clue 3 I realized I wanted to do it differently because it turned out so big. After reading all the comments I now know that I will do the rest a little different.

Am I reading this correctly, "You make your final four squares this week!" Does that mean after Clue 4 we don't have any more squares - just assembly or something else like strips? :hrmm:

Glad this clue has only 4 squares. I still have 2 from Clue 3 to finish, but they will wait to be finished after I get Clue 4 done. Only one thing with this afghan so far, we seem to be repeating a couple of skills in multiple ways. Clue 1 gave us knitting on the diagonal. Clue 2 gave us knitting in the row below. Clue 3 and 4 have combined these two skills, when will we get another new skill?

We have some new stitches and techniques planned for the border, which uses completely different patterns!

After reading the clue more closely, we are using Contrast A for the first time, and will use less than half of it. Yet this is the last square pattern. I realize Contrast A is also for the forders, How fat are these borders going to be, and why are they not balances? Afterall, we have the possibility of 4 squares by 6 squares or 38 inches by 57 inches meaning 3.5 inch borders on the long sides an 1.5 inch borders on the short sides.

Those details will be released with the border clues.
