I'm going to make the last two strips of 4 tonight yet but attach them tomorrow because the natural daylight is easier on my eyes. Hope it doesn't rain tomorrow! Tonight I'm going to sit and watch a movie with my blanket on to see how warm it is. :cloud9: Maybe even start the borders, but I think I can wait another day before :knit: :knit: !

Mayvalley wrote:Ah thanks. I am familiar with the mattress stitch. I just didn't know if it was a technique I hadn't heard of or tried yet. I'm just exploring all my options before I seam. I think I'm going to go with this technique:

It is for joining blocks with garter edges.

Just viewed. Will use that if I have any straight edge garter stitches that line up together. I'm looking at what I've done so far and every edge with garter stitch has been on the bias so not a straight edge in terms of stitch count. And the direction of the loops is opposite, not the same, so I think this will be hard to do for this particular project.

Hmm... I realize it was intended for two straight garter edges rather than our bias edges but the test squares I did with this stitch came out looking good IMO... I don't know yet on which method but I know I dont really like the look of the whipstitch or "overcast stitch". I'll play around with a few different methods to see what looks best.

Good for you! I am on this forum uniquely from my iPad. Luckyrainbow told me that Photobucket is free and is easy to use. It's true, as you can see from the number of photo posts I do. You can click on any one of my photos to get to Photobucket. And you can download the Photobucket app from the apps store - link at bottom of every photo.

Well that's good to know! It seemed to me that the idea is basically the same for both matress and garter stitch methods....to have an invisible seam using the loops of the existing knitting. If you use this, please post photos so we can see! Now you've got me really curious. I couldn't do the overcast either.

Here is a great example of where to use that seamless garter (in this photo it's not quite the seamless garter). I couldn't go quite that far since for all my other squares I've got a bit of edging around thé main knitting. Since these squares in garter are the least stretchy of the lot, I need to keep as much edging as I can to maintain uniform size of my squares. If you are making a v-shape chunk of same colour in your afghan, there are à couple of places where the garter stitch lines up in the same direction.

Now I'm one square over, and you can see that the white has garter stitch going in opposite directions. I wouldn't know how to do those to make them look seamless in garter stitch. And I couldn't do that for some of the blocks and not for others, because it will affect my measurements, I think.
