I've learned so many valuable lessons...most importantly gauge/tension. I just need to weave in all the ends once I'm sure it's safe to do so.
I hope everyone is enjoying this as much as I am!

I am still working out how I want my design before I stitch it together today. I think I really like yours! Thanks for the great idea and you have a beautiful afghan. Please repost pics once the border is in place!

Sure thing! This is thanks to Shandeh's posting way back. Guess it's called the matress stitch in English. It's usually illustrated in absolutely every knitting design pattern book. It really IS invisible and creates a seam with rolled back selvedges, much like sewing with a sewing machine. Those rolled back edges cover the stitching and you get nice clean lines with evenly distributed bulk. What I like about it with knitting is that you take the yarn through loops that are more embedded or behind the main ones, and it keeps those main ones that you want to see in the foreground. Don't know if I explained the idea very well, but it's easy to see when looking at an illustration. When joining any two sides, I'm using the darker of the two shades so you aren't going to see any lighter yarn peeking underneath the dark. The darker yarn just blends in with its colour on its side.
Here's Shandeh's link:
Your other option would be to do a mattress stitch on the right side, which really is invisible...but takes a bit more time and attention to complete. If you use that stitch, you can just choose the color from one of the squares if they are not matching.

Ah thanks. I am familiar with the mattress stitch. I just didn't know if it was a technique I hadn't heard of or tried yet. I'm just exploring all my options before I seam. I think I'm going to go with this technique:
http://www.knitpicks.com/tutorials/How_ ... _D312.htmlIt is for joining blocks with garter edges.

It's coming together!
Right side:

Wrong side:

The afghan is turned widthwise; i.e. The shaker ribs are going to be vertical lengthwise.

Just viewed. Will use that if I have any straight edge garter stitches that line up together. I'm looking at what I've done so far and every edge with garter stitch has been on the bias so not a straight edge in terms of stitch count. And the direction of the loops is opposite, not the same, so I think this will be hard to do for this particular project.
