Also, thank you k1p1quebec for your great explanation of why you might want to lay square 2 vertically instead of horizontally. I was kinda thinking the same thing, but didn't know if it was the right thinking. Thanks.

I would leave them loose for now.

Thanks! :cloud9:

No problem! Lucky you to be that far along! I'm on my very last square tonight and will start my blocking tomorrow. Think I'm going to get huge pieces of that floor covering to pin them to, get out the steamer, and do 10 at a time. I've made plans to help a friend do spring cleaning in her garden so if the blocks could be doing their thing while I'm outside all day, I'll be able to multitask. Home Dépôt, here I come! ;)

Does anyone have some good tips on weaving in loose threads? I never really learned a good way to do this and I feel like I'm ruining my afghan with my clumsy attempts to "hide" my threads. :idonno:

I found this a while back. It should give you some good pointers.

It's not a Bernat page, so hope no one minds that I linked it.

Thanks karenarp for the link. It is really helpful. I'm going to take out the ends I attempted and see if I can't do a better job using these methods.

Thanks for posting this link. Never saw so many different ways to weave in the loose ends and I've been knitting for a loooong time. ;)

I'm still behind on finishing my squares but I am wondering about the use of the overcast stitch to join the squares. I had thought we would be using a method that would be more invisible. Is using this more visible stitch meant to be part of the "look" of the afghan? And which yarn colour are you supposed to use when joining different colored squares?. :?:

If you want the seaming to be invisible, you can do the overcast stitch on the wrong side of the blanket, just seaming through half of each stitch. I've done this before, and it looks pretty good on the right side. The color of the yarn doesn't matter as much if you do that.

Your other option would be to do a mattress stitch on the right side, which really is invisible...but takes a bit more time and attention to complete. If you use that stitch, you can just choose the color from one of the squares if they are not matching.

Another option would be to do the overcast stitch on the right side, using the same color yarn throughout the entire blanket. This will add a design element, that makes all the squares cohesive.
