Knit-Along Clue 6 (Week 7)

Have started the borders but still need to sew the squares together. Got them blocked but they are still a little damp. Should be able to start putting them together tomorrow.

I was just about to start sewing together my squares when I was informed that it is Earth hour. I was so excited too, but I guess a break will not hurt.

oh good, my darling husband just put the kybosh on turning out the lights ( he's watching hockey). Yay, back to seaming, but I will make an effort to do more than I do already for the environment. I think I'm going to use the overhand seaming method like the clue says to do. Never done this before! wish me luck:)

That is how I sewed my squares and it turned out just fine. I followed charoks suggestion to sew "bump to bump" and I used the darker color yarn when seaming a dark color against a light color. Good luck! You'll see how quickly it goes.

I am happy to report that I have completed and blocked all 24 squares and have attached them, as well.
The result is quite satisfying and looks lovely on my diningroom table. I am well into knitting the first side edge and am wondering if there are going to be top and bottom edges, too.

When I measure mine it is 60" in length. I notice the pattern calls for us to knit "approx57". Do I just knit to the full 60" ?

i have the same question... if we have slightly smaller/larger squares, should we measure the full length of our blanket and continue the pattern repeat to our desired length?

In answer to my own question....have just finished 1st edging and it is quite stretchy. I quit at 58 " and it fits just great with a gentle bit of stretching.

Of course I don't know for sure, but I'm figuring that we will have bottom and top borders to do eventually. My guess is that we'll pick up stitches on the bottom edge to knit the bottom border and likewise with the top border. But like I said, it's just a guess. What do you all think?

Of course you're right, KnitKnacker! Remember those circular needles on the materials list that Kaleigh mentioned in this week's directions? (she said we didn't need them YET). I was thinking that 29 inches was not very long for the long edges! I hope that this week will be another catch up week though. With Easter break and hols and family fêting, won't have much time to get past the two long borders.

I remember reading somewhere that it shouldn't be exactly the same length, in order to avoid puckering. i.e. It should be slightly smaller so it can be stretched à bit. The only other criteria is to finish with à row 1, so we havé complète sets of squares.

Remember to stretch the edgings slightly when measuring the final length against the sides of your afghan to avoid any ‘ripples’ when you sew on the edging.
