Roxanne33 wrote:Not my best work. I was never good at attaching things. But I loved the process and at least it's not another UFO. Also it's soft and warm and I like it a lot. I might try to do it again in another color scheme. Congrats to all of us for the good work !!!

Hi Roxanne33, Your blanket is so pretty. I really liked your colors. I am not really pleased with the colors that I picked, but it is okay. What colors did you pick and was it the Bernat Yarn? I would really like to do another one using your color scheme. Just beautiful! :bravo:

k1p1quebec--for the top & bottom borders, did you pick up the stitches and knit the border, or did you do it like the side borders, knit it and then attach it?

Hi BusyBea,
I picked them up. Advantages are twofold: no separate attaching and the stitches and lacey diagonal lines are going in the right direction and not sideways (not that it really matters here, with all the bias squares - I am one of those people who edits and has to pay attention to periods vs commas and extra spaces between words, so put me in the category of extreme attention to detail. ).

It wasn't too hard - 7 stitches for seed stitch edge + 10 stitches for small square on top of right border + 40 stitches per block (4 small squares of 10 stitches each for each large block, as I have on the sides) + 10 stitches for small square on top of left border + 7 stitches for left seed stitch edge. This gives an even number of stitches. On the bottom I worked the squares according to the directions for the left border; on the top I followed the directions for the right border.

I used stitch markers to keep my sets of 10 nicely separated; with over 100 stitches on a circular needle I didn't want any mistakes to have to undo. :ire: Even so, on the bottom there is one small square Where I forgot to yo, but I can live with one thing. That left border was always hard for me to remember to yo after the K2tog. :rainy:

I worked the 14 rows of pattern and then went straight to 9 rows of seed stitch (didn't need to work row 1 for ending pattern because not working vertical blocks). I needed 9 rows vertical to equal the same measurement as my 7 rows of horizontal seed stitching on the left and right sides.

When you switch to seed stitch, you just need to decrease 1 stitch in order to have an odd number of stitches so that you always begin and end with a K1. I decreased on the seventh seed stitch of the border Where it meets with the first of the K2 edge stitches of the first small square. It's not noticeable There.

Going to post my final photos now; wove in loose ends on back side this afternoon.

Borders: one is top right and other is bottom left. Can't remember which is which! If you see a missing yo, then that is bottom!

And final resting place for my keeper afghan. I'd like to say that I enjoyed my first KAL so much that I hope to join in again for the next one. The mystery piqued my curiosity and kept me motivated (proof - I actually finished! Everyone is amazed at how quickly it got done)

I enjoyed trying new stitches and learning about colour coordinating (proof - I have colours from three different colourways in my afghan). I think it turned out great, AND it looks good with the colours in my living room! Bernat, you've got an excellent partnership with Waverly that is educational and that gives beautiful results. Please keep! Now I'm ready to do some coordinating cushions (HINT HINT).

I especially enjoyed connecting with a bunch of new and wonderful people and hope to be stitching with you all again for other projects! The support and encouragement is fantastic, not to mention motivating!

Finally, I appreciate the inclusive and educational environment at Bernat. The instructional video tools are extremely helpful and the admins and moderators of the forums are always present and engaged - even doing the project right along with the rest of us. Noone is turned away; there isn't a prerequisite to be working with Bernat yarn in order to get help or participate in a project. So many times I have seen yarn shops offer classes or help, but only if you buy everything right there.

I'm done with my soapbox speech - here are the "afghan in context" photos:
