It would be handy to get to know how the basics before you start (casting on, knitting, purling, and casting off), but I think you'll be fine! When each clue is released we'll also be releasing really great tutorial videos on every technique you'll need that week, and you'll always be able to find a helping hand here :)

I would recommend using this project as a way to motivate yourself as a knitter. You could go ahead and get everything you need to make the blanket, and work on it at your own pace. Besides, there is no race to finish the blankets. All knitters have their own style and speed. You can knit the clues you understand, and ask questions here if you get stumped. We were all beginning knitters at one time, so we know how you feel.

The best part of learning while you make this project will be a beautiful blanket you can keep forever!

I did the mystery crochet along last year as a way to learn to crochet and it was just fine. Everyone was helpful at providing tips and tricks. You should be fine participating.

Oh, maybe I'll do both! I'm an experienced crocheter, but a beginning knitter. Maybe this will motivate me to knit as much as I crochet!

I also really like knittinghelp.com for really good videos. I'm an intermediate knitter and these videos have really helped me increase my repertoire.

My good friend down the street did the Mystery Crochet-Along last year, but I only knit so she told me this morning about this year's Knit-Along. I am very excited, but also frightened. I am a very beginning beginner who hasn't touched my needles since this summer. I burned out on making dishcloths, which is basically the only thing I have ever made (other than scarves with jumbo yarn). I'm hoping this forum will keep me accountable so I can actually complete the project; I tend to be a quitter whenever I get discouraged.
