Was ready to give up on the knitting and use my yarn for a second CAL instead. So I put it away and got my CAL squares done now I have an entire week to get this, just haviing issues with keeping track of my increase rows. Any advise or tips on counting rows?

put a marker on the side you increase on that helped me to know when to increase

Yep, as the person right before me said, whenever the stitch marker is facing me, I know it's an increase row. It's helped me a lot!

Definitely put a marker on the side where you make your increases. Sure helps me!

I'm gso glad there are other newbie knitters struggling and it's not just me. I zipped through the CAL clue, but haven't even made it through half a square yet. I finally got some scrap yarn and practiced for a couple of hours last night and watched some youtube videos. I think I'm feeling brave enough to give it a try with my "real" yarn after work.

Whooooo hoooooo my first square is done! the marker worked like a charm actually didn't have a marker so I put a rubber band on one needle so I knew which side was my increase. Thanks for all the help, looks like I'll have a knit and a crochet blanket after all.

Ok. total novice here. I was almost finished with first half of first square when I realized that ever since about row 12 or so, I skipped the knitting row and just increased every row!

it's kind of important to follow directions. :reading:

starting over! not discouraged -yet.

Edited to add: I will use the marker method to remind me - thank you!! :knit:
